Rachel Alexandra won by 20 1/4 lengths with never, ever, ever a movement of Calvin’s hands or crop whatsoever. She just cantered home and never showed how much go she really has in her.
That is down right frightening!

OMG! What a filly, heck, what a horse!!
Will she run in the Belmont?
Personally, I can’t wait for a Zenyatta - Rachel Alexandra showdown.[/QUOTE]
It won’t even be a showdown if Rachel can run on the synthetic at all. There is a new queen in town. She had her official coming out party today.
final order = Rachel Alexandra wins, all others distanced…
I read somewhere that they were considering the Belmont.
But really, what is so different about the Belmont than the Derby if they didn’t want to run her against the boys?
Isn’t she going to go for the Filly Triple Crown aka “Triple Tiara”?
Owner said that “The Triple Crown is for the future stallions of the industry, and stallions should run with stallions and fillies should run with fillies.”
Not an exact quote…but that was close.
Wow. Just wow.
Was that her owner who said in the winner’s circle that “fillies should run against fillies and stallions against stallions.” ?
OMG, I can’t wait to get home! I had DH tape it for me!
I think he wants the Triple Tiara to be as big as the Triple Crown, which IMO, would be fantastic.
But I think that filly would’ve blown the hooves off those colts in the Derby.
She is co-owned so there are always going to be differences in views.
Yes, her breeder who is a co-owner does take a “stallion view” of the Triple Crown. He’s been quoted before on that point and I wasn’t shocked. Both owners have said they never wanted her dealing with the risk of 19 other horses (in the KY Derby) bumping her which is a valid concern.
That said the Belmont Stakes (which often gets only about 10 runners) has been mentioned as a “maybe” and Rag’s to Riches paved the way for the Oaks-to-Belmont transition.
Keep in mind she is not nominated to the Triple Crown. Having skipped on the last nomination opportunity for just a few thousand dollars the nomination now goes up significantly.
I myself would love to see her in say the Travers Stakes.
I think supplemental nomination to the Triple Crown before the Derby would have cost 200,000, but after the Derby will drop to 100,000 for the other Triple Crown races. I think.
Looks like the colts caught a lucky break tomorrow.
The gent who made the “Triple Crown is for Stallions” remark [I guess Funny Cide is overlooked] was Dolphus Morrison
Final order with win/place/show
1 - Rachel Alexandra
2 - Stone Legacy (owned by Marylou Whitney)
3 - Flying Spur
Here is the replay for those of you who didn’t get to see this romp.
Disappointed that I missed this on TV. Completely forgot (layoffs at work today ).
I did see the replay on youtube already. Wow, that filly smoked the others! She is huge, and her stride gia-normous! Can’t wait to see her run against the colts.
It was nice to see Stone Legacy come home second- I like seeing MLW do well.
Oh, by the way, was that fast? Well if she even tried it would’ve been the Oaks record by time. I do believe she has the taken the record for the largest margin of victory …
Rachel Alexandra ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.87 and returned $2.60. The Oaks record is 1:48.64 set by Bird Town in 2003.
I’ve been sick all of April and that Bravo coverage left me wanting to hit someone, but I’m going to attempt to say some positive things.
Rachel Alexandra. How awesome is she. Whoa.
Who else wants to give Calvin Borel a big squeezy hug just simply for being Calvin Borel?
Pink is a lovely color. Even when there’s a lot of it. Because breast cancer awareness is good. There should be a whole lot of awareness now.

If Calvin would have actually asked her to run, she would have blown the record out of the water. She had a lot more in the tank. I’m glad he didn’t though…
And I just love Calvin Borel. He shows so much appreciation for the horses that he rides. You can tell that he really loves them! Truly one of the good guys in the sport!
I absolutely love Calvin Borel. Watching him give her those pats on the neck in deep stretch made me tear up. Seriously.
Lovely, lovely filly. God protect her.
I agree with everyone else - Calvin truly is gracious in his remarks and does care about his mounts. I don’t think it is for show at all as he seems humbled by having the chance to ride her and does the right things.
