18-19" saddle for shark finned TB for long femur rider.

Update. Ordered the stoneleigh saddle. VERY nice quality. Looks like it fits to me. BF rode in it yesterday and LOVES it. Lesson today so trainer can give a second opinion on fit for horse an the BF. And what a great deal!!![/QUOTE]

I’m so glad you like it! It will get even more comfortable as it breaks in.

Leather looks great how it is but wondering if a light coat of neatsfoot or olive oil would be a good idea? Will also consult with the seller.

Right after I got mine I oiled all over with a light coat of hydrophane, then subsequent heavier coats on the flaps (not knee rolls and not seat). Not saying that’s necessarily the right approach, but I’m very pleased with the result. I did the same thing with the first one that is still going strong at 18 years old, so I don’t think it will hurt anything.

I think a little oil will speed up the break-in process and help it soften. Mine isn’t fully broken in yet b/c I’m 8 months pregnant, but it is well on the way after a dozen rides. My old Stoneleigh fits like a glove, can’t wait until the new one does too – it just has a bit of that slick new grain leather feel still, though the balance is superb.

Yay! Happy you found something that worked!

We need pictures

I’m glad Smith Worthington is getting business. They do produce excellent quality in both their saddles and their strap goods.

Happy ending. We’re keeping the saddle. Put two light coats of oil on it yesterday and it looks great. Went on a long trail ride and BF was very very happy with it. Horsie too. Thanks everyone!

Wonderful! So glad it worked out. Would also love to see a picture!

I’m having trouble fitting my TB boy as well but he’s kind of the opposite. He has standard narrow withers but not shark fin, and they aren’t incredibly high. The problem is the rest of him is quarter horse build (barrel build with a big caboose). I’m having trouble finding a proper western saddle

If the stoneleigh does not work out for what ever reason, i have a very similar body type, size, and horse. I use a 2007 prestige paris classic and LOVE it. Super good quality and fits my horse suprisingly well. I do use a gel pad but otherwise everything works well together.
