There’s kinda a theory on diesel engines that once they reach a certain point then they will run great forever. If $6,000 isn’t a real huge deal financially, go for it. But always keep in mind that it is old and sh!t happens.
If you’ve never had experience with diesels before be particulary careful not to fill it up with regular gas on accident. My mother learned the hard way on our suburban and had to get it towed and drained. Luckily the gas hadn’t hit the hoses yet or it would have been a real mess. I thought it was funny though.

I have a 1986 Ford F250 diesel with about 185k miles on it, and it’s still going strong. We have had some problems with the glow plugs lately though…we seem to be going through glow plugs faster than usual, and they are sort of expensive. We’ve also replaced the injectors recently. Boy, talk about putting up a smoke screen while going up a hill and losing power when those injectors are clogged!!! Sheesh!

But all that stuff is no different than repairs you’d have to do on any older vehicle. The diesels are supposed to last a long time, and I know that for the 1986 models, the transmission they put in them was very heavy duty…strongest you could get. I’m not sure about 1987-up because they changed the truck then.

Is this diesel turbo charged? We ended up putting an aftermarket turbo charger on ours, and it made a world of difference when towing on hills! It cost about $2000 and was well worth the investment.

Well - since you’ve told me stories about Mr. Wings and his habit of bringing home things you DON’T want, I would take this as a sign from God that he has answered your prayers and just take it.
Besides, diesel engines are really made for standing up over the years and miles. 89k miles is nothing, it’s a mear baby.

BTW - since we are just down the street, you do realize that this means you have to start taking Clive with you on your horse show and Frying Pan runs. , right?

we don’t have desiel trucks but five desiel cars all over 200,000 miles, they run very well, that’s why my mom refuses to buy anything else!
