2 + 1 Horse trailers and appropriate tow vehicle

I know 2 people that have had the 4 Star 2+1 one with the dressing room and one without. One of them sold hers and got an EBY 2+1 with dressing room. That is a well made trailer too. These are all GN

Another friend has the Hawk 2+1 no dressing room. This is a bumper pull. I am not really sure I personally would be comfortable with that big of a trailer and 3 horses in it as a BP even with a weight distributing hitch and anti-sway bars. That is a lot of trailer back there. My truck is a 2500 crew cab with the 6.5 ft bed so it is a decent sized truck and I would not want to do it.

The 4 Star, EBY and Hawk are very well made and safe. I would assume that the Equispirit is just as well made. I have seen a few of them and they are just lovely solid trailers.

I went from a 3 horse slant Merhow goose to a 4 Star 2+1. I custom ordered both after researching them. Where I am located, you have to drive a couple of hours either way to go look at different trailers and I just didn’t have that kind of time. So I researched; read reviews on here and other sites; compared and then plunked down my money. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the brands mentioned. I will say that I wish I had gotten a 2+1 at the time I bought the Merhow 3 horse slant. My horses outgrew it but I was worried that a 2+1 would be too big. I probably would have wound up with a Merhow 2+1, but I do think the 4Stars are nicer and a bit more solidly made.

I’ve had my 4 Star 2+1 with a 4ft dressing room, for a year next month and couldn’t be happier with it. I’ve used it to go trail riding; take lessons; go to horse shows; to haul home a Polaris Ranger UTV; a llama; and to take two horses down to FL and go riding on the beach. It’s wonderful to haul two big horses in; all their feed and hay plus an extra tack trunk, small wheel barrow and a muck bucket; plus all of my tack which I keep in the dressing room. I got WERM flooring which is heavenly particularly when two big horses decide to pee on the trailer during transport. Also got the quiet ride system which I love. I ordered it where the middle gates will fold back flush to the walls in either direction so by folding the gates back and pulling the center post, I can easily move a horse forward to the center compartment and tack up and then walk down the side ramp in inclement weather. Great for when the weather isn’t cooperative but your lesson is indoors.

I haul mine with a 2015 F-250 Superduty XLT 4x4 that gets all of 9 miles to the gallon when towing but hauls this trailer beautifully.
