What do you all think of this guy as a hunt seat/all around prospect?

I am no expert but pasterns look a little long and upright. Hind legs look too straight. Looks butt high but that may be because he is growing. Looks like hind end is not balanced with front end (hind end more powerful looking than front end)- because he is a baby. Not much withers- I would expect to see more (looks like saddle would want to slide forward). Would be helpful to see other views of him (front, rear). Hope other more knowledgeable folks can weigh in.

I don’t like that they have him behind the vertical so much in the video. He is a nice looking guy have you been to see him?

Thanks…bump

Are you looking to buy or just critique somebody else’s sale horse? You have posted quite a few of these ads for critique, many COTHers don’t like critiquing random sale ads without sellers permission or at least a serious buyer with an appointment to try the horse, even if they are online ads.

Looking to buy

Yep, this is tacky. Stop posting other people’s videos on a public forum asking for critiques.

Also, are you wanting to show the solid classes? This horse is advertised as a solid bay overo, which is nonsense. It’s a solid; is that they route you’re wanting to go?

Are you working with a trainer? You need to be showing THEM these videos, not posting a HUS horse on any forum, let alone the Western one.

OP, you’re 24 ish, correct?

All of the critiques are a little tacky I have to admit, and I think make people assume you’re a teenager. I assume you have facebook, since most of the horses you’ve posted, I’ve noticed popped up on facebook at about the same time you posted. There is a great Facebook group called Horse Conformation Education that is specifically for this. :encouragement:

Agreed, OP needs lots more education in conformation. Read Dr. Beeman’s book, Form To Function, which is stuffed with information. You need to develop your “eye” in picking horses apart, know what is functional for your uses. Don’t look at one body style and then expect to turn horse into a completely different discipline.

The horses you post are pretty much all the same in faults. Shiny with cute faces, probably not going to stay sound over the long term. They are not made to be ridden collected, working off the hind end. It is going to be very hard for them to go that way. Not a great choice among them, in my opinion. Sure none I want to own.

Just a note on this, genetics rule can apply to solids if this boy had two APHA parents. The rules have changed now so I don’t particularly mind the “solid bay overo” advert. He looks a bunch like his grandsire, ATF. Unfortunately, with No Doubt I’m Lazy being papa, genetics test wouldn’t assist in this case.

Solid classes often do not fill. Points can be tough and resale even more difficult. Sadly, he’s likely just a nice family/4h mount especially with that confirmation. He will never be comfortable in a lower headset.

I’m well aware. I was at convention when the change happened, I’ve campaigned for the change, and have a horse who was granted RR status with the rule.

“Solid xxx Overo” still doesn’t make sense. It’s got solid papers or it doesn’t. The buyer needs to know so they aren’t scammed into showing SPB classes only if that isn’t their intention and they aren’t well versed in APHA rules or showbills.
