I’m surprised that General Quarters price is so low. Perhaps it is the story. Coa had a choice between General Quarters and Musket Man. He chose Musket Man.

If these odds hold, there is some great value to be had in there.
The likes of Papa Clem and Musket Man, even Chocolate Candy if he floats to double digits, are all worth a strong look, and the there’s a complete lack of respect for the Godolphin pair.
I think this is as open a Derby as we’ve seen in a while. The favourites, FF, PotN, IWR, and Dunk have shown flashes of brilliance, but they all have serious question marks.

I hope he’s OK.
Flexed off left front ankle, pulled due concerns not 100% and footing issues that could complicate it as per Mullins.
Thanks for the update, Findeight.
I’m bummed for Talamo.
There is also if you trust it: Twitter at the Derby
From Alicia Wincze, turf writer for the Lexington Herald-Leader and the press conference
The Wood Memorial winner apparently jogged sound but took a couple lame steps after the ankle was flexed.
“Knowing the weather and how well they seal the racetrack and the possibility of how hard the track may be we felt it would be in the best interest of the horse that we’re not going to run,” trainer Jeff Mullins said. “It’s your greatest dream to come here and it’s your greatest nightmare to scratch the day of the race. It’s not quite sinking in yet.”
“I would like to commend the owners and trainers as well for doing right by the horse,” said Dr. Larry Bramlage. “If there weren’t a Derby horse we’d just be keeping an eye on it.”
Co-owner and breeder David Lanzman described the incident as “devastating”.
“I’ve got these cards that I was dealt,” Lanzman said. “I can’t look back at what might have been.”
Dr. Foster Northrup, who examined I Want Revenge, said he believed the ailment was minor.
“We’re not talking about a lot of heat, we’re not talking about a lot of filling,” Northrup said. “It’s a minor issue at this point.”
Doesn’t sound like they had that much of a choice…had the horse gone off anyway and something happened…
Internet or not, there will be a lot of scrambling to reassign all the money already down on that horse and the pari mutual people do not like that this late in the game, there will be some questions asked just to be sure it’s legit. Sounds like it is.
But…what about the attitude of “if it wasn’t a Derby horse”…? So…it would be OK to run him in a lesser spot? Just not with the world watching. Made me cringe.
Re: I want Revenge - I feel for the horse, although he doesn’t care. I feel sorry for Joe Talamo as I think he’s a good young guy who is polite, clear in his feedback, and not a crazy guy in the irons with a thirst to win at all costs. We’ll see Joe again in the future.
That said I’m just as happy with the prospect of seeing IEAH and Mullins on camera and NBC having to gloss them up in the pre-package episodes and interviews.
Now we can see Larry Jones or Tom McCarthy, heck even Pletcher or Baffert, with more camera time.
Where can we watch this on the internet?
I’m stuck at work all day and love to watch the pre-race stuff. Does anyone know were we can watch the live preraces, interviews, etc?
Sorry, I meant via the internet…
Bummed about I Want Revenge, but glad his connections are doing what’s right by him… should be an interesting Derby…
I just hope they all come back safe!
Props to the MLW Stables! Race 3 on the undercard: Marylou Whitney owned-bred Luv Guv breaks his maiden with D. Wayne Lukas as the trainer!

Bloodhorse.com has live streaming coverage.
Bummer.
I was hoping that I Want Revenge, along with Friesan Fire, would turn out to be something special- simply because, and I KNOW this isn’t criteria for most, those two, as far as I’ve found, have only one cross to Raise A Native (via Mr. Prospector for IWR) or Northern Dancer (via Dehere for FF)- just because I think it would be beneficial for the breed as a whole to get away from the concentration of those lines. FF would be my first choice for this on paper but I do like to watch IWR run.
Just for giggles, IWR’s fifth dam, Soly Sombra, traces back to Hyperion.
FF is very intersting. Fifth dam Ascalon traces back to two crosses of Blandford and Son-In-Law plus Merry Hampton who appears in MOW’s dam side. Merry Hampton kind of little regarded except for his appearance in MOW’s pedigree so this caught my eye. FF has about the most crosses to Somethingroyal I’ve seen in a pedigree and therefore, a lot of Princequillo. I know that’s a ways back now, but hoping those sound Pricequillo genes carry on!
Othewise, the only other horse with one cross is Advice, who is not expected to hit the boards. But sire line Tom Fool I don’t think is seen much these days so for sentimental reasons, hope he does well.
By the way, IMHO and only IMHO, I think all three of the above horses carry enough lines known for sport that their athleticism should be a natural.
But none of that has to do with racing so we shall see.
ESPN is putting forth some decent coverage of the undercard races right now with Jerry Bailey and Randy Moss plus somewhat less Joe Tessitore. Thankfully no Hank thus far!
Bob Neumeier won’t be part of the coverage this year: “Racing analyst Bob Neumeier hospitalized”.
I hope it’s nothing serious.
Is it streaming online anywhere? The Blood Horse’s coverage just ended.
