I was cheering for Golden Soul. He was a longshot, so I’m thrilled he got second.

I feel like this is an 80s (and older) flashback, Shug, Janney and the Phipps, and that plain bridle!
I love that Orb traces directly back to Ruffian’s dam Shenanigans in the tail-female line.

The Whitney/Phipps have owned that dam line going back NINE generations to the 1800s.

Thrilled with Orb’s win. 2 thru 5 pretty darned close together and I liked the way ‘my’ choice Mylute w/Rosie finished.
40 years after Secretariat, I’m more than ready to cheer for a TC for Orb.
That is cool. They certainly took long enough to say who the Janney’s are.
They didn’t mention Ruffian until AFTER the race.

Yay for Orb and all his connections. So richly deserved by all! Am I a bit churlish to be totally delighted that Pletcher didn’t win? Would have been the perfect race if Rosie had switched placings with Pletcher’s horse. Seems wrong to have one trainer running 20% of the field. Hard not to root for Calvin, but…Pletcher. boo hiss
Does anyone know if Orb has the pedigree/talent to go all the way?? It’s been 40 years since Secretariat. The last TC winner was 10 years before I was born. I’d LOVE to see some one win it and Shug/The Phipps seem so deserving.
A wonderful race and outcome - with a modest wager & return for my efforts. (One of the worst OTB experiences however in recent years with waiting lines, etc…)
On the business side for CDI pure success despite problems:

Betting declined on a soggy day at Churchill in which reported attendance of 151,616 fell 8.3 percent from last year’s reported attendance record of 165,307, a decline that probably cut into Churchill’s on-track wagering figures. In addition, the two largest account-wagering companies in the United States Twinspires.com – owned by Churchill Downs – and TVG, both reported problems in taking bets leading up to the Derby.

McGaughey said after the race that he plans to ship Orb to Belmont Park in New York Sunday. He’s not scheduled to come to Baltimore until “a few days before the race,” Janney said.
While McGaughey said he “couldn’t wait” to get the colt to the Preakness, Janney said he’d wait to see how Orb fares Sunday before making a final decision.
McGaughey said he thinks Orb has yet to run his best race.
“I’ve seen some things that make me think there’s more there,” he said.
