So proud to have been a Chromie from before the Ky Derby. Cantering away he goes ![/QUOTE]

Me too! Yet part of me is really sad beholder didn’t do it, she’s so special :’)

Love him!!! So thrilled. I was yelling for him down the lane, and my daughter was yelling at me because I was too loud, lol.

I’m so glad Hoppi got to 4th. I like that boy.

The finish was as perfect as I could hope for. Woot Woot

Fan for a long time!

Wow, he absolutely destroyed them there. Took the race by the scruff of the neck and made all the running. Went 2:00.3 in a canter. Mighty impressive.

He’ll be hard beat in the Classic.
Any word on if he’ll prep and where before the Classic? I’m presuming the Goodwood, or whatever it’s called nowadays (the Awesome Again??).

I wonder that people don’t stop and think… this is a 5 year old horse. He has gotten better and better. I wonder how many horses who were retired at 3 could have done similar. Not to take anything away from Chrome… just pondering. He sure has proven his worth in any way someone would want to question. It will be interesting to see what he produces at stud.

Did anyone read this quote from Victor Espinoza about California Chrome?

He’s just an amazing horse. He won so easy today. I’m going to say this now — this is the best horse I’ve ever ridden.

In case anyone forgot, Espinoza rode American Pharoah in the Triple Crown races.

Really says something, doesn’t it? I can’t deny, I would still pick AP over CC, I just personally like him better. But that is not to say that CC’s races haven’t been terrific! He’s really been a monster this year. I can’t deny that I didn’t expect it…the end of his 3YO year, he seemed like he’d already reached his peak. That’ll teach me!

I was thinking the same thing. Unfortunately the lucrative stud fees for top horses plus the chances of injury mean we don’t get to see top-class horses run for a long time. I wish we could though. I would’ve liked to see more recent Derby winners at 4/5.

It really is fun to watch a Derby/Preakness winner run at 5. And dominate!

When they interviewed him after the race, he was asked who he would pick in a hypothetical race against each other.
Victor said as 3y/o he’d choose AP, but as older horses he’d choose CC.

This is what they all say, they are only worth what they are bred to do, if they cannot last long, and they cannot stay sound, they are not worth the “lucrative” stud fees. That is why we have the issues we do. That being said, California Chrome brings tears to my eyes of happiness that such a good horse was trained by such a good and kind man, most everyone else did not anticipate this and Art Sherman just patiently believed and trained him to what he saw in him, not what the pedigree said, not how much money the connections had, not what the horse was “worth” and he did not throw a fit when there was that diversion to England that should not have been and all the other conniptions and gossip about nothing. There is justice in the world after all.

Having said that, Scat Daddy who finished off the board in the 2007 KD and retired due to tendon issue is apparently a very nice sire who died, IMO, way too young.

Most mare owners are not breeding for soundness but performance fortunately or unfortunately.
