K but having to go to Kroger and other local shops for food and supplies, while in the area from out-of-town, are all part of horse showing. When people say they’re concerned about sanctioned shows and people coming in from all over the country for these big ones like Pony Finals, it’s not solely just about being on the show grounds together. The concern is for everything that is part of the entire experience, including people from states with huge COVID numbers gallivanting about in their local grocery store.
Not gonna lie, the pictures of maskless children, weeping on each others shoulders, posted by a pissed off pony mom, did not elicit any sympathy from me. Tears and snot to spread the virus around just that much easier.
How bout you teach these kids about how the virus spreads and why PF was cancelled in the first place
I don’t know the numbers, but I’m sure there are people who get tested even if they don’t have a reason to believe they have the virus. Those people have no reason to quarantine themselves while they wait for results.
That’s plain stupid. Go see them before they die of loneliness. Who would want to live without their family , isolated from everyone? What would be the point?
the one time I try to be nice… okay back to be a first class royal bitch! Way more fun!
thank you for your medical opinion. Those children seem to have much more compassion for each other than you do for them. As so many have pointed out, horse shows are not the real world . But it is their world! And it was taken away because of so many factors. Chief of which is stupidity on the part of USEF .
It is called Cognitive Dissonance.
Right, just get it over with and have them die of COVID now. It’s not like old people have any life or interests other than their children. Party on, dudes!
Traverse City should be shut down. Only about 50% of the people are wearing masks. People are waived right through the temperature check. Occasionally an announcement (in English only) is made about the mask mandate. That’s the only effort to enforce protocol. Last week the course designer tested positive for Covid. Now, there is talk that another person has tested positive.
If I understand the facts correctly, the people I am referring to were tested because they had contact with someone else at the show who tested positive. It appears they got tested but kept coming to the show until they got their positive result. It is against standard protocol to continue going to public events while waiting for test results after being exposed to a person that is positive for Covid.
This is the problem, you have to rely on everyone acting responsibly. The general public does not have a great track record in this department.
Ha, you must be a pissed off pony mom
I’m working at a horse show now, and am calling out people for not masking up
This isnt a game. Peoples lives and health are more important than pony finals. Yah, you heard me, I’m at a show, wearing a mask, trying to earn a living. Non maskers are killing it for everybody
as for my medical opinion, well the best medical professionals in the country agree with me, unless you believe in demon sperm and alien DNA
Give that the last day of the current KY show was cancelled, I wonder if whatever show was supposed to happen next week would have been cancelled, independent of it being PF. Maybe there’s a protocol in place that states that the show rounds has to be shut down for a certain amount of time and disinfected if there are a given number of cases.
My SO who has no particular reason to suspect he has the virus, had a cardiologist appt. last week. Given his cardiac issues, the doc sent him for a test, and told him he (and I) needed to QT until the results came back.
Oy vey. The Plaid Horse posted a short article on FB regarding the cancellation. Included in the article is a picture FROM TODAY that shows 3 people on the ground in a schooling ring at KHP with no masks on. (And, as a bonus, one had on sandals.) I guess I was expecting way too much when I thought people would follow the rules because they would want horse shows to continue.
The article also mentions that USHJA had recommended canceling PF originally but it is a USEF event so USEF owned the decision. That is something I did not know.
This is pretty normal for medical procedures. You quarantine because they don’t want you to catch the virus after your test.
YES, it was the USEF who drug their feet. The USHJA wanted it cancelled weeks ago.
Which is also true then fore the post I was commenting on:

YOLO all your family members. Who cares if they die?! /s
Not to kill them with a virus is the point?!

Assuming that a person was sick and came away is a bit unfair. A lot of people are getting tested so they don’t have to self quarantine for 2 weeks. Should everyone wait for the results before they show up at a public event? Yes. But a lot of people do not show any symptoms so it is possible to look and feel healthy and still have Covid 19
