2022 Maryland 5* at Fair Hill

I was in the stands and I didn’t hear the bell. Lauren looked like she kept saluting, waiting for the bell. I really felt for her. The thing it, when she crossed the line, it didn’t start the clock according to the time On the on the screen, that just ran out… the whole thing was just odd.

I saw that too on the livestream, that she just kept saluting and waiting for the bell. Poor Lauren!!! That is so frustrating. I feel awful for her.

More issues with the timers, ugh.

What a finish. Some amazing rides.

Does anyone know how the prize money is distributed?

Shout to Z too who had yet another solid performance.

Unfortunately the roar down In the arena can be deafening however there is always access to a count down clock so if the rider has any question they can look at that for reference. I feel bad for her. Terrible actually, but there’s nothing for the officials to do. It was the same tone for everyone.

It seemed like a much louder crowd than I’m used to. Usually they are quiet for the bell and I can hear it easily on livestream. Seems like an organizer issue to me. Especially when you have some riders purposely riling the crowd up…

I am catching up on all this since I didn’t watch the 5* XC until this morning, however re: rider coverage…

I am so bummed that they didn’t show any of Zoe Crawford and Zara’s run!! Instead they showed some else, it may have been Woods, just walking around before their go. I love that little mare and was excited to see her tear it up out there today and they only showed like 2 seconds of them :frowning:

I’m absolutely shocked they didn’t remove Lauren’s time penalties. This is a nightmare to me as someone who is partially deaf and very hard of hearing!

Was there an easily visible countdown clock?

I am actually delighted at such relatively safe, positive rides and hope that doesn’t change next year. But the technical snafus and miscommunication need to be ironed out.

All Lauren had to do was look at the large countdown clock…this is not a timing problem…that is the purpose of the timing countdown clock…to avoid any confusion…whether there is a lot of crowd noise for a person’a ride or not.

Yes it was on the jumbotron

The US is in great shape for international events in the next few years.

I predict Tamie and Will as the anchors on your teams, and there are perhaps another 10 who could fill the other two spots quite capably.

I think Tim said that the horse was new to this level as well.

I thought someone said it wasn’t counting properly when she was in there?

Yeah Tamie is really just showing up time and time again at the top. Haven’t seen that for some time.

I thought that too…was thinking of Happy Gilmour :joy: crowds were wild!

I was in the crowd and did not hear Lauren’s bell. The clock was on the jumbo tron and she saluted a couple of times and was definitely confused. We all were. When they announced that she had crossed the start line and that’s why the clock started is when everyone booed.

I love Tamie too!! But is she much younger than Boyd (genuinely asking)?

She’s a couple of years older than Boyd.
