Will someone kindly explain why, when I looked at this link, I saw only gibberish that I am guessing is some type of computer language? It does the same when I try to look at the yellow cards for eventing straight from the FEI website.

It’s an Excel sheet. Perhaps you don’t have the program on your device?

I am very computer illiterate. Am I able to put Excel on my laptop?

Do you have Microsoft Office?

The COTH article posted above is a pretty good summary of the results, though.

Thanks. Not sure if I have that. This computer isn’t used for work or business. :slightly_smiling_face:

I use a free version-- I think it’s OpenOffice.

But the issue at least with bits specifically, is that some bits are known to be cruel for the horse, and are very often used as a shortcut / bandaid for lack of training and experience, so yes I still think it’s ok to call riders out and hold them accountable for harsh and severe bit choices because we know that their horse is in pain when it’s in use just based on the pure mechanics of how the device works. And I’m speaking in GENERAL TERMS here not calling out any one specific rider so please RELAX @ everyone who wants to lay down their life defending these riders lol

Hello,
I think if you’d check my instagram post on the recent horrors of our health care system then you’d realize my health scare, or as you so eloquently put it, “pregnancy issues” were in march of 2021.
Jennie was kind enough to take the rides while I was away from my horses for months supporting my family and caring for my father who was at home in hospice with stage 4 cancer. He was quite a guy.
I encourage you to check your facts in the future.

Whoops sorry I accidentally flagged as spam. Anyone with more knowledge know how to unflag?

I’m so sorry about your father, and am glad you were there with him to support him.

People do realize that bits, as a whole, every single type and mouthpiece, cause discomfort, right?

And I think a prerequisite to commenting on bitting should be that you’ve brought a fit and blood horse to a full gallop in an area where you can’t use terrain to stop them. Not 20 years ago, either.

I apologize for diverting from the ongoing conversation but could someone please give me a link to the 3* results? I’m out of the country and just can’t seem to find them on line. (Yes I’m an internet dunce). Thanks in advance.

I just read your post. I’m so sorry you went through that. It’s awful enough to experience such a health scare, but at such a time when you were under tremendous pressure to compete and excel makes it a thousand times worse. My mother passed away many years ago under the care of hospice when she had stage 4 cancer, and I hope your father’s pain is being managed as best as possible.

I just have to add, re: this whole discussion, that I have a great deal of compassion for all UL riders–especially those who are young, without significant financial backing, on less-than-perfect-mounts–and even though things can get feisty here, occasionally, I can empathize (from my own experiences, outside of riding) the blinding focus that’s necessary to succeed when it seems like opportunities are scarce.

Lmao. “It’s ok to hurt an animal bc technically all riding is hurtful so therefore there’s no possible way to draw a line or recognize the concept of scale when it comes to causing horses discomfort” k!!! Goodbye I can’t with this

If that’s what you gathered from what I said, then good riddance.

Wait, I forgot the lol and the ‘k’ to show how much I really know about the topic.

Tell me you’re a member of “Horrible Horsemanship” on Facebook without actually saying it

(that’s one of the “omg you ride in anything but a snaffle” groups on facebook where chain shanks are the devil but it’s a-ok to use a rope halter with knots on it designed to hit incredibly sensitive pressure points on the face, aka - a group for people who can’t ride and armchair quarterback instead

Hi Hallie. Welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear of your father, and sorry you joined under such circumstances. I hope you stick around; our event voices are in short supply these days.
