I used to event years ago, but topped out at Prelim and switched to dressage. While I love the challenge and beauty of upper-level dressage done correctly and kindly, I still have moments of missing cross country and the culture of eventing. Professional dressage, as we’ve all seen this week, can be ugly.
So I eagerly nipped over to the Eventing forum this morning to catch up on the Olympics cross-country day. I’m relieved that the course seems to have ridden well with everyone home safe and sound. But what I REALLY wanted to come here and say is this: there is something really special about a group of people coming together from around the world, united by their love of horse sport, to cheer for, celebrate and commiserate with every single pair on course. I love reading comments like “Well done Sweden” and “Poor Poland.” This is what I remember from my time as an eventer
