It said his membership wasn’t up to date or some such thing, and so the points didn’t count.

How do you do this and not realize your bit is upside down?

By being the type of “rider” who expects his horse fully groomed and tacked up before riding and who doesn’t otherwise care for his own horse

So as a junior he went in a couple of local shows, one year. So do about a million other lesson kids. His lack of horsemanship is completely obvious now.

Thanks for the links to the page with the videos.

If he is not doing this properly, the horse will soon have saddle sores and foot sore, likely already does. That can catch up when the horse isn’t going for him any more.

And I really do think that this guy is going to have his own miseries
I wonder if that will be his quitting point.

Saw on a FB post that he is apparently in the San Angelo area. May have already passed through by now.

I wonder if he is using Google maps on his phone, or something? Coverage is going to get increasingly sparse as he goes north in TX/NM.

My guess is that he’s using some sort of GPS system or online maps, judging from his apparent complete ignorance of terrain, water sources, etc. And when coverage fades, well
and probably coupled with his poor horse fading, and probably his enthusiasm fading from physical discomfort and lack of the “oh, aren’t you wonderful!” feedback he was obviously expecting, and actually got at the beginning, but now has turned into “animal abuser!” feedback, will probably result in an abrupt cessation of the ride. Blamed, of course, entirely on the horse. Or maybe on the media. Or someone else entirely

He as a fancy GPS device. He is a Tech Bro after all. He did a "what is in my packs’ video a few days ago and showcased all of his gadgets/backup batteries, his TWO Lululemon shirts, screw driver, 2lb salt mineral block, an unopened bottle of corn oil, half used tube of banamine, etc. Just go to tic tok and search 2raw2ride or just google his user name and the videos pop up.

So true! And it’s the same where I live, in north central Arizona. It is literally where the deer and the antelope roam. This IDIOT has no idea what he has gotten himself into and the fact that he was previously an unremarkable, D-list contestant on a reality show just screams that he’s doing this for his ego. He wants to extend his 15 minutes of allotted fame with his stupid, selfish “destiny.”

How suitably ironic for this IDIOT if his adorable, sweet horse turns out to garner the better part of social media attention because so many of us want to see the poor animal rescued.

Can’t someone stop him at the New Mexico border and demand Coggins papers?

The Facebook group is now closed and one of the last posts showed the horse in a pen, saying he was safe st a vet’s office. So, apparently, mission accomplished!

I wouldn’t be too sure about that. I just saw these posts, posted a few minutes ago:

  • [Frances Toney]
    **Falcon is at a vet![**:+1:|16x16]

    • [Kyle Ann Hung]

Frances Toney Where did you see that? Nothing on his instagram or tiktok state that Falcon has seen a vet or is at one.

Linked is an April 20th update of an April 19th San Angelo article about Falcon and his rider, which includes a report by an anonymous vet tech (not a veterinarian):

That story is a step toward what some of the activists have been trying to accomplish – something more rounded than the happy feel-good story that has been done to date. Mentioning the condition of the horse, etc.

A good first effort. However it is obvious the interviewer doesn’t know much about horses.

Also I’m noticing that there is no good clear photo of the horse’s condition! How is that well-rounded journalism?

I am guessing that 2raw2ride convinced them not to take/use photos other than the one with the light behind him, so that he and the horse are hard to recognize. Although the pinto horse is hard to miss!

The author of that story posted on the Save Falcon Facebook page referenced earlier in this thread and asked for information. It seemed like they wanted to write a balanced piece.

That Facebook page, BTW, is back up, but all the old posts are gone. It does, however, have video of the horse at a vet’s office today. Apparently he’s still there.

So
 just wildly speculating here
This part of his ride may be the best chance to intervene in the near future. San Angelo is practically a bustling metropolis compared to where he will be going fairly soon.

But – so long as he isn’t doing anything illegal, LE may talk to him, but they won’t stop him from continuing.

From the map posted above, it looks as if he will avoid Odessa. It really is a major anchor-point in the area with a lot more people and traffic. Including true horse people who will take one look and know Shiok’s condition, and likely ‘busybodys’ who will pay attention.

As he goes further into northwest TX, it’s far less populated, and primarily with people who are not inclined to interfere with others, no matter what they are doing. Even if an animal is at issue. Unless neglect or abuse is staringly obvious. And someone motivated is there to see it.

I also wonder if he is crossing into NM from Texas, or continuing north across a sliver of OK panhandle into Colorado.

I am guessing he will cross at Clovis or somewhere in that area (don’t know all of the roads). And go from there in the direction of Albuquerque to stay south of the mountains.

I don’t think he will take a much more northern route than Clovis (a major state line crossing). If he goes much farther north, he will have to go west across mountains that are increasingly rugged as one goes north. Mountains add miles because of winding roads necessary to go up/down elevation. Also he needs to stay at lower altitude because of the snow melt that will be in progress in the mountains, wetting everything and making it slick.

I will guess that he will follow a route that is Clovis - Albuquerque - across northern AZ - north through Nevada. That avoids the major mountain ranges.

(I love maps. )

Elevation-wise he is already 1,000 ft above Austin. Even if he stays on the flatter ground, he’ll be going up another 3 to 4 thousand feet to flatter Nevada. The rise may not be apparent to the eye, but that kind of travel wears physically.

Not for nothing, this part of the U.S. and especially the mountain west is having a cool spring. It is cold at night where he is now, even if daytimes are warming up. Nights will be getting colder, and daily temp swings wider, as he gets into the real desert of NM. He probably chose spring to travel to avoid the heat, which is not a bad strategy, but it brings its own challenges of daily temp swings.

We’ll see what really happens.

Thank you, OverandOnward, for the geography and climate info. It really helps me understand what’s going on here. I’ve lived in Colorado and Wyoming, but have zero understanding of the terrain in Texas and wherever else he might go.
