I used the number of a horse rescue in Seattle.

The funny thing is that when he set out, he made a video of his equipment and showed that he had a screwdriver for pulling shoes. People called him out on it and he said he was just testing everyone, or something along those lines.

So not only did he not learn anything about how to pull a shoe from that, but it seems he even lost his original screwdriver since he had to ask for one.

I donā€™t think he learned from anybody. If you donā€™t realize that horseshoe nails are bent over and clinched, you might guess/think that inserting a screwdriver between shoe and hoof would be just the thing to pry the shoe off. Of course, anyone whoā€™s ever looked at a horseā€™s shod hoof will realize the truth.

Likewise, Blu-Kote (or however itā€™s spelled) is probably just what somebody had lying around and gave to Cereal after noticing some of his horsesā€™ wounds.

This guy is not noticing, researching, or learning. Heā€™s just wandering through his life, and other people are taking care of apparently everything in this guyā€™s life. Sighā€¦

So much so that when he was in someoneā€™s private driveway, blocking the resident who was trying to drive in, when the resident said, ā€œcan I help you?ā€ which is polite for ā€œwhat are you doing here, you donā€™t belong here,ā€ good olā€™ Cereal assumed they actually wanted to help him, and didnā€™t move out of the way until specifically told to. That resident ended up getting the proper tools and removing the shoe.

I could not agree with you more!
Sadly, my gut says it is not going to end well for the horses.
The description of Falconā€™s heels, hipbones & back is heartwrenching when you realize how they came about.
That this woman thought Pete was in better shapeā€¦ :disappointed_relieved:
But apparently LE that has interacted along his route is not seeing anything outside their Box oā€™ Reasons to Cite or Arrest.
I think part of this is the very rural small towns heā€™s sought out - whether by design (unlikely) or chance (dingdingding!) - where stories like this arenā€™t newsworthy enough.
The Chgo Expressway Cowboyā€¦ THAT was News :expressionless:

I think whatā€™s bad about the small towns along the way is they tend to be hands off other peopleā€™s business, even when you hate it, and especially when it seems to be moving on
. Itā€™s notable that people are calling LEO and trying. I tried to call that inspector but of course donā€™t expect to get anyone until tomorrow soonest. If a SO has no horse experience or like they said, are hoping he just moves on, I can see where he gets a pass but small towns have a lot of accountability too. Missoula is very different and I donā€™t think he will have as much luck there as the remote corner he is in now but time will tell. Disappointing, but as O&O keeps saying, itā€™s hard. I keep hoping for the right pair of eyeballs at the right time.

that heel pathology sounds awful and I mentioned pages ago about the lack of muscle over the pelvis that looked like more than just lack of calories.

mule hips the author of that quoted post has a golden heart. She at least tried

Iā€™m sure this was already posted, but just in case. This was from 5/15. The rancherā€™s comments are classic.

ā€œBertheau isnā€™t the first uninformed egotistical fool that has put a horseā€™s life in danger,ā€ Oā€™Reilly said. ā€œBut that doesnā€™t mean his arrogance and ego should automatically allow him to abuse a horse from Austin to Seattle.ā€

Oā€™Reilly said it perfectly.

Damn I hope some people are listening. Especially some Netflix documentary producers. This is a story, for sure ā€¦ just not the one Knucklehead thought up at his office desk in Austin.

Maybe they could do a ā€œdocumentaryā€, but not in the light heā€™s hoping for. That has happened once or twice, I think.

The documentary ā€œUnbridledā€ comes to mind. There are stark differences, though. They did train their horses for months. They also had feed support. They also had many horses. Some of them died during the trip. Were they shown in a good light? The horses were. But they lost some very good hearted animals in preventable ways. Did it inspire people to adopt Mustangs? Probably not. Did they get a lot of attention? Yep. In the end, that was probably the most important goal, even if they didnā€™t admit it.

But thereā€™s no actual story here. The only story is horse abuse. The only people that would care about a cross country ride are horse people, and itā€™s clearly not going over well with them. Heā€™s an absolute nobody with zero life experience. There is absolutely nothing of interest or notoriety or even curiousity about him, heā€™s just a dude bar-hopping across the country on horseback. Heā€™s not had any run-ins with nature, nor has he done any sort of charity or good works along the way, and thereā€™s no actual overarching purpose to any of this. Heā€™s literally the most boring, useless, and uninteresting main character ever. You canā€™t write a script out of any of this.

He has had local sherriffā€™s come out from people calling on him and there was something that involved a vet in TX as well as has ā€œanimal controlā€ at one point in TX as well. I feel that the animal control stop was staged with some locals. Both of them were dressed in street clothes and there was no agency truck or a truck/car with decals identifying they were animal control. The vet that had Falcon (the paint) for a few days in Tx told Ceral that the horse is not fit enough for the journey and he left the following day.

LE (I feel) is not going to do anything. He has not done anything illegal. LE is also not trained to deal with animal abuse on this scale. People should be contacting the SPCA or even PETA to get some negative attention to this guy and hound him.

@Paint_Party At the very begining of this jouney he did a ā€œwhat is in my gear bagsā€ video and he shows a screw driver (to remove shoes) a can of blue-kote, and he had a salt brick as well as an unopened liter of corn oil. It is posted in his playlists on this IG account

@endlessclimb I would love to see a Fyre Festival like documentary of Cerals trip. It can be titled, Soggy Cheerios; a cautionary tale of what not do to while long riding.

@dags donā€™t tell Cereal he is the most boring, useless and uninteresting main character ever. He would disagree with you.

If I could, Iā€™d have LIKED this post a billion times!
Nail, meet head :face_with_head_bandage::hammer:

& Now Iā€™m kinda hoping there WILL be a mockumentary, exactly as @dags describes :smiling_imp:

All profit to a Rescue

Just wanted to post this again. It deserves to be read more than once!

Ditto. Not a huge market for viewing animal abuse, never mind the deliberate ignorance. And my lens might be foggy but I donā€™t find him in the least way attractive.

Youā€™re right, Iā€™ve also never found him to be attractive. I may be old, but Iā€™m not blind, and he just ā€œainā€™t itā€ at all.

The worst part may be that this trip and how heā€™s doing it is showing the world his soul. And his soul is so very, very ugly.

I find him unattractive also, but his social media presence gives him a certain notoriety, which is attractive to some people, and his initial ā€œancestral trek/missionā€ was compelling enough to get him national media stories.

Thatā€™s enough for free beer and some female company, apparently.

Unfortunately, there are women in the world, who have grown up in abusive situations, so that becomes what they know, and they are attracted to that. They donā€™t understand that there is better out there. Sad to say, but true.

I find no redemming qualities in Cereal.

The tone of his voice, in his videos grosses me out. He is so in love with himself.
