We backed her in hand 6-8 slow steps and she was fine. No symptoms of shivers.
I thought I might have missed it. I’m more familiar with that being a field test for a “sticky” stifle aka subluxation of the patella. Best of luck.
I have a call in to my local vet (who is younger but shadowed the lameness vet who did the SI injection). To see if she can take new radiographs on her hind legs and do her neck/back. I think it may be her right stifle, just not sure what the exact treatment would be to make her more comfortable. I’d also like to have an idea of what we can expect performance wise from her…ie. never have clean changes, limited to smaller jumps, etc
Oh dear. Well, a good rider can cover up some things. When she braces in her back with the other rider, you can at least see why she has been sore.
Consider an Equicore system for ongoing rehabilitation.
If ProStride was used for the SI, that might be one place you should do steroids. But I don’t know if it’s too soon. The joint is so small and not really a capsule like other joints so usually they dilute the steroids with saline and diffuse some on the way out from the joint. This can alleviate some inflammation in the lower lumbar and other areas. If you just did the 2 part injection, you might want to try the 4 part (cranial and caudal approach).
Assuming neck etc is clear.
Both stifle issues and SI issues will impact the changes.
So, SI injections aren’t really in the joint. They inject into the soft tissue around the joint. I’ve never personally heard of Prostride being put in an SI and I’ve seen lots of SIs injected. Always with steroids and Sarapin.
From the videos, I would say she does not have stringhalt. All of the horses I have seen with stringhalt pick up the affected leg dramatically at the walk, then slam it down. It really looks to me like a back issue. Either lower thoracic/lumbar or SI.
Let us know what your vet says.
Id have to refer back to the invoice but the lameness vet did draw her blood and spun it to get the plasma. He injected the plasma 3 x on each side and some other anti-inflammatory concoction 2-3x injections each side (near the SI using the ultrasound). He did ultrasound her stifles (but I think it was with an older/portable machine) and he did note she had inflammation in both. That vet also injected her with osphos, I forgot about that. I was able to pick up both hinds right after the above treatment occured, but last 2 weeks I haven’t been able to get the left hind up. She appears better about the right hind that after the SI treatment.
