A better e-collar

I’m not even going to go there with how stupid do you think I am (I already know the answer to that) but hence my confusion. I would certainly hope no-one would use a shock collar to keep a dog from biting/licking wounds. To me, and as others also agreed, e-collar means shock collar while Elizabethan collar or cone of shame (:)) describes what OP was talking about for many of us.

I’ve used these. They work okay, depending on where the wound is. Watch for abrasions at the edges of the collar–they tend to rub, IME. If they’re sized to not rub, they’re too small to prevent chewing. He might not need to bend his neck around much to lick his hind legs, too…so it might not work.

How big is Frank? It might be bucket time. Back before cones of shame, you’d cut the bottom out of a bucket, punch some holes around the rim and tie it to the dog’s collar. Because they’re stiff, it works really well. The dog looks really silly. Here is a little tutorial. Make sure the bucket is deep enough.

I’m trying to picture this - rolled like a fat donut (or pool noodle…hey!) and taped?

Yes! I put it around his neck and then tape it or vet wrap (loosely with the vet wrap) all the way around the circumference.

If his neck is longer, you can fold the towel into layers to give more coverage, or use a bigger a towel to roll.

I wonder if a pool noodle would work? You could cut it to length, run a string through the center and tie on as many as you need for the length of the neck.

I got the Bite-free collar, and it doesn’t really work for his back legs, but it does keep his cone from sliding down. So the combination of the two seems to be a good one.

I’m glad you found a solution! I hope he heals up quickly.

I saw a photo this week where someone had made “beads” out of pool noodle and put on a regular collar- seemed to work great.

Here is a unique Elizabethan collar, to make adorable tiny dogs look even more adorable:
