A day too early…

The cat distribution system sent her to your family and she had a wonderful life. We just never have enough time on this Earth with our pets. You did right by her, and I’m sure someday your son will understand about relieving an animal’s pain. Hugs to you.

I’m so sorry. I know how your son feels - even when there’s no real choice in the matter, I get angry as well that this (whatever ‘this’ is) has happened to my cat. It’s part of grieving.

If you think he’s in a place to hear it, you might tell him that cats really do hide their pain and sicknesses until they simply can’t anymore, and she was likely much worse than you knew. It takes a lot of courage to make that final call, and we often second-guess ourselves, but all we can do is find some peace with the knowledge that in the end, animals don’t understand life and time the way we do, and we did the right thing with what we knew at the time.

Thank you. Last night I let him stay with her body as long as he needed to. Then he built her a casket, wrapped her up, dug a grave, and even put a cross on it. When he was done with all that, he definitely felt better. I will keep an eye on him tho.

Grief shows up in funny ways and miss-directed anger is one of them. He will understand as he gets older that you did indeed do the right thing for miss kitty.

Give him time and space. He will let you know when its time to get a new kitty and recieve a well deserved hug/squeeze as his heart heals.

I am glad he took the opportunity to help her lay to rest peacefully and you gave him the space to do that.

You’re a good momma.

Hugs to you and your family.

Aw I’m so sorry about your family’s kitty, and for your loss. It’s amazing how something so small can leave such a large void in our lives. Hugs to you all.

I’m so sorry about your old girl. Giving them a dignified end is never easy even when we know it’s the right thing to do. I hope that helping with her burial will provide some comfort to your son.

I’m sorry your boy is upset about the decision. Maybe it would help to tell him how much cats mask pain. We lost our first cat when I was 11. I grew up with her. She was sick but still appeared okay. It was probably feline leukemia. We were poor and she wasn’t vaccinated. She just disappeared one day. Cats hide and die alone. Not knowing where she was and searching the neighborhood for days was terrible. It’s better to pick the time and love them as they leave us.

When we got a kitten the next year, I carried him to the vet and paid for his vaccines myself. I also insisted he stay inside.

This. The very last thing I would’ve wanted, and I did tell him that.

I am so sorry, @Obsidian_Fire :heartpulse: I’m also sorry I’m late, things have been bad at work and I haven’t been able to be on here like I normally would be.

I remember her following me to the school bus stop meowing that morning. I remember her standing on the sidewalk and her little mouth moving when I looked out the window of the bus as we pulled away. I felt terrible guilt when I couldn’t find her after school. I would hate to have another kid go through that.
