A Rather Silly Turnout Question

Seriously though, the only thing that isn’t encouraged are square pads, although a white one would be preferable to colors, rainbows, unicorns! Half pads, shaped pads (of discreet color) are totally fine.

Kate, you mean to tell me that the bright strawberry pink I got in honor of ETBW would not be acceptable?

The pad you are describing is the ONLY pad I use now.

It is this one:
Engel Sheepskin Shaped/Fitted Pad:

Here’s a Mattes version - very nice:

I only use sheepskin directly on the horses’ skin. It is how it is meant to be used. But I like fitted/shaped pads but don’t want full sheepskin under the saddle flap, so this one is like a combo of a sheepskin half pad AND the cotton quilted thin pad under the saddle flap.

LOVE THEM!!!

@ Trixie

When it comes to expressing oneself in the huntfield, I encourage folks to do so with their underwear choices!!!

I was looking at the Engel one (since I have an Engel half pad which I loved up until yesterday, when it started to lose its “hair” when I pulled it out of the washer!). I was considering it. Where do you get yours?? I can’t remember who I bought mine from. I do wonder if it would be forward enough for my very forward saddle.

I love all things Mattes, but the object to not spending half my pay check on this would not be met.

…depends on the saddle. I used a half pad for a few hunts then found my horse was getting rubs at the bottom of the flap. The Stubben Seigfried has a bit of a stitched roll at the bottom that makes it stiffer than a plain flat leather flap.

Speaking of pads… which fleece pads have you found run largest? My saddle is a large 18, extra long forward flaps. Everything fits a bit short on it.

My favorite tie to wear for cubbing has Looney Tunes characters on it.

I never go cubbing without Marvin Martian, Foghorn Leghorn, Bugs Bunny, Yosemite Sam…

I get my Engel Sheepskin Shaped/Countoured halfpads from Horsin Around Tack. She has an ebay store:

Notice this one fits saddles up to 18.75" That Large size is SUPER generous!!!

I have four of these pads - in different colors! LOVE THEM!!!

You can see my Chocolate on Chocolate Pad (my favorite one) under my saddle in this photo with tons of room all around:

You can see my other one (Natural on Black) here (tons of room around the saddle)

And you can see my White on White pad, here, it is TOO BIG for my 17" County saddle:

Here’s another really clear shot of the pad under my Bates (17 or 17.5", I can never remember)…plenty of “room” around the flaps. And you can see the other one in this pic, too:

I hope this helps. I LOVE THE ENGEL PADS!!! Horsin’ Around is soooo nice to buy from, too  She has a regular store here, too:

KateDB is correct…

…that EITHER Master might steal him…those ARE the unfortunate consequences for showing up turned out incorrectly, you know…the Master may re- po your horse if he/ she chooses…

size matters

Gypsymare: not sure about half pads, but my Fleecworks full sz. pad is HUGE…and I ordered it to fit my 17" saddle…I guess I get away with it without looking ridiculous but I feel certain George Morris would tsk- tsk me if he saw the more than 1 1/2" edge around my saddle outline…

Yup they’re out there!

I think it’s Toklat that has sizes. I’ve got a coupla ones that are synthetic fleece on one side and waffling the other. Get the X large. I also bought a terrific one (unknown brand, sorry!) at Horse Country Saddlery here in Warrenton for a 19" trail saddle I have. Got my Toklat in Middleburg.
Cashel Cushions makes pads by size too including their foams-love them!
