Shitdoghandlersunite I believe
I hadn’t seen that one, but went and found it. Definitely horrifying and not funny. I also can’t believe how many of those schooling XC fences fell down. Do people not know how to pin XC jumps?
i know for a fact i couldn’t handle it. The cover photo would probably do me in without even entering the page content. I hate it when people make fun of animals, and abuse makes me sick to my stomach. Insensitivity toward animals is, i think, my main problem in life. Followed by crimes against Nature, and then, cruelty and insensitivity toward other human beings.
Sites such as you describe would only make me disgusted with people more than i already am…and that’s saying something!
I think the group started out with good intentions, namely to show all the less-than-perfect moments all of us have with our horses. Also, especially in eventing, because it’s three phases, often there is a higher likelihood of less-than-perfect moments because a horse that’s safe cross-country may be terrible at dressage or less-than-careful in stadium. There’s also more of DIY horse culture in the UK (again, which is awesome) and more willingness to show the rough-and-ready side of riding. Sometimes I get a little tired of just seeing the perfect tests and rounds of my friends.
But then the website just got out of control and scary. It was making me anxious to see so many falls, too, I must confess.
If you’re looking for a similar sense of sweary British eventing humor but without the scary falls, I’d highly recommend Muddy Mayhem on Instagram. She’s on Facebook, too.
I know it’s not a “sharing” thing, but perhaps that’s just as welll!
Like many I have a love hate relationship with the group, but still there, scrolling past things I don’t agree with, like the horse tied in the trailer with the rope on its bit
I see many people falling off, who shouldn’t, in my humble opinion, fall off, and yes, obviously unhappy horses.
I’m also from the UK and maybe have a different take on the way language is used, so calling your horse names is kind of par for the course, at the same time probably battling anyone else at the barn who uses a bad term against your horse.
As to is it the horses fault, yup, I think sometimes it is, I do believe that they have a “nope” “don’t want to” as well as can’t, I don’t think it’s safe, it hurts, and I have no idea what you are asking….
Love that post by Muddy Mayhem. So true!
The post in question is the ONE post in all that I looked at that made me raise an eyebrow. I’m not sure that the horse is in pain, but I do think it might go better with a rider that gives more direction. Definitely not the right match. But it could also be like that video of Ed the pony- his mum commented somewhere, or shared some more recent photos at one point, that said that the video is a compilation of a few years worth of bad moments, and that most of the time he was great and the kid did well with him. This could be the same thing- maybe that horse and young lady do great together most of the time, but have some shit moments (don’t we all?). I apparently only fall off at horse shows, mostly in stadium, and if someone put together a video montage of that mess over the past 15 years we’d all be in tears.
I haven’t seen the horse in the trailer with the rope through the bit either… but there are a lot of posts.
I abhor violence, abuse, neglect etc. toward animals. I’m the oldest millennial (really I think I’m the OLDEST millennial, but really more Gen X in most things), so maybe I’m just immune to disturbing things on the internet and just keep scrolling subconsciously? If I saw that happening in real life, in such a close succession, I would definitely be appalled.
RE: the language. Do people still watch videos with the sound on? I have the mouth of a sailor so maybe I’m just immune to that too! I definitely call my horse some colorful names when he’s being a patchytwat but it’s fine because his English isn’t so hot. So far he hasn’t been super offended.
There’s the occasional horror story - broken handler bones after being taken out on an agility course by the dog - but for the most part, that one is a lot of fun and some of them are laugh out loud funny due to the dogs’ reactions once their person is down. I’ve been on shitdoghandlersunite for a while now and I haven’t seen anything that made me worried about the dog where the handler ALSO wasn’t worried about the dog and trying their best to fix the situation.
I LOVE that I can show the agility bloopers to my friends who are too afraid to trial and go “see, I told you we all fail miserably fairly often. It’s part of the game!” . At the same time, I’m rather thankful that I don’t have any of my wipeouts on film …
