Adult showing in jods?

Maybe a cultural difference here but to me jodhpurs are full length, fabric down to the ankle and breeches stop mid-calf, often with a different, thinner material from just below the knee. Obviously one can wear paddock boots with both, but the breeches show a lot of sock. That is OK because long boot socks of the loudest possible colours are currently horse fashion in the UK.

While breeches used to stop mid- calf, today they’re often quite a bit longer.

ETA: I believe that’s not right, they came to the bottom of the calf or an inch or two lower, and had buttons or zippers at the bottom. Then everything got stretchy.

Modern breeches are supposed to hit above the ankle but before the calf muscle. A crew sock should be plenty of height to keep everything in place (and in fact I prefer those to boot socks - less bulky).

If breeches stop mid-calf, they don’t fit. That’s just asking for rubs, and would generally put the knee patch way above the proper location. Maybe that’s the issue here?

I’m all for people wearing whatever they want (safely), but to me this sounds like the actual issue is improperly fitting gear, both boots and pants.

Based on the question about showing hunters I assumed the OP was in the US or Canada? But maybe she’s in the UK and what she calls Jods are not what we call Jods?

I think I’m the same height as the OP and breeches come to my ankle!

I agree about trying different styles-it’s amazing how different breeches that look the same can feel.

@red_mares ugh-the sizing issue has gotten better but still can be so frustrating
