Advice re economical foaling cam/security camera

Looking for advice and search function did not find- maybe I used the wrong key words.

I’m sleep deprived and ready to fork over money for a live feed to the house - looking for least expensive black and white- I guess recommended to have wired/not wireless- but that would be maybe 200 ft from house- haven’t measured yet . Did I mention the sleep deprivation?

I’m sure someone on this board will give me excellent advice or give me a link.

Thanking you from the bottom of my heart in advance…

We just bought a $299 Uniden G755 system at Costco and it’s working beautifully. Comes with two cameras and a tablet device that you can watch the cameras on (plus you can also watch on an App on your phone, or the TV if you set it up). I found the same product on Amazon here:

I was very e xcited until I saw cable length 80 ft. That’s not getting us to the barn.

Mine had 200 feet of cable. Maybe contact them and see if they still have those? I would give you mine but my filly chewed through the wire!

I originally bought the one Laurie recommended, but we have lots of computers and stuff on our network, so it had lots of interference and wasn’t giving me a good enough picture, especially as I am on MareStare…

so I ordered this one::

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001S1M9SQ/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

it’s double the TVL, and even with everything else we have running, it gives a nice clear pic. however, it came with NO wire and I had to buy 100 ft to get to the house. Definitely worth the extra $$.

We got a camera system at Costco as well but the thing that worked for us was the Equifone.

Not as expensive as others and you will get a few false alarms but it was the phone call that got me up and to the barn.

You spent $859 on a foal cam?!?!?

Is it possible to add extra cable to the camera that Laurierace has suggested? And if I buy a few of them, can they all be hooked up to a laptop?

I have a wireless unit as my barn is 300+ foot from my house:

Clover Cw3510 2.4 Ghz Wireless Color Camera System (Obs Systems/Home Security / Wireless Observation Systems)

http://www.amazon.com/Clover-Wireless-Systems-Security-Observation/dp/B004Y37D6S

Main problem is that the picture is not clear as the barn has a metal roof, which can interfer with the picture quality. I bought this several years ago, for the 2010 foal. It works nicely but I am thinking of an upgrade for this year.

I got our system from http://www.securityvideosolutions.com/. Our foaling paddock is about 250 feet away from the house and we have a wireless system. It has a very good picture and was easy to set up. Here’s a link to our cameras: http://www.marestare.com/fcam.php?alias=foxhavenfarm ETA- If you are just watching on a monitor in the house, the picture is even clearer. Live streaming causes some pixelation.

I have Swann security cameras and they sell a 300 foot cable you can buy (shorter lengths I think too but I need the 300 ft) all on Amazon.

I bought this $300 Swann wired system at Best Buy tonight, on sale for $179

I have TV cable running to my barn, so I hooked it up to that in the barn, and the TV screen is visible in the house, It came with two cameras, I can add two more cameras to it later if I want…

I have this system and I LOVE it. Actually I got this in 2009, and the pieces have slowly gotten lost, so I just ordered a new set to arrive tomorrow. Great picture, reliable, awesome system.

Not to hijack, but we have DSL Internet with a modem/router/gateway in the apartment over the barn… What is a good wifi system which can grow from a single camera to multiple, viewable over the Internet?

Jennifer

We bought this system for foaling this year: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008B4K7O6/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 We already had the wiring to the barn, so we hooked it up and it was good to go. It has a very sharp picture; I didn’t realize how many dust motes float around in a barn.

We have been using their cameras for 3+ years. Great product, great customer support. Cameras have IP addresses and work on WIFI. Viewable from anywhere in the world. No additional hardware needed. Cameras also have the ability to save video or stills to SD memory cards. Mac friendly too.
