I take it off every time, take the doohickey off and rinse both, shake the tube out and then jam a clean, dry towel through it and use a clean towel to pat the doohickey dry.
Ugh. I still haven’t figured out how to get it all the way off. I guess that’s tomorrow’s project! Good thing I have a gazillion microfiber towels. Thanks!
I saw your question but didn’t have time to respond if you found an answer - great! I haven’t used my flexineb for inhalers, but would wash the same way - take apart and rinse/(disinfect if appropriate), dry, and finish with air drying in the case.
However, I will also say that when I’ve used inhalers, I’ve used the AeroHippus. I had that device first and it’s easy and light and doesn’t require attaching to the horse’s head. It’s also super easy to clean and comes apart without you thinking you’re going to break it lol.
Thank you! I deleted the second question because I figured the answer was to take it apart. Currently am just using for saline, but will soon do a round of meds (liquid vial, not MDI), and want to be sure I am cleaning it correctly. I do only use the distilled on the cup.
I was definitely afraid of breaking it when I tried to take off the aerosol chamber. I did give it a good rinse with it on yesterday, but it was a beast to try and wipe dry with it on. I’m not out there today, but will try to remove it tomorrow.
I hadn’t heard of the Aerohippus… it looks a lot easier!
Thanks for all the advice!
@erinmeri do yourself a favor and get a hay steamer …that will greatly reduce if not virtually eliminate the need for any meds or expensive supplements…also bloodwork for serum allergy testing and immunotherapy shots
Thanks! I agree. I do have a hay steamer - one that I don’t have a lot of confidence in that we got in Jan/Feb of this year. I now have a HayGain arriving next week. My horse has been on soaked or steamed hay for over a year and a half. As for the allergy testing, we tried, but supply chain issues put that to bed.
And for context, my horse had no flares from when I started soaking until I got the crap streamer.
Just wait until your horse whacks the thing on the stall bars and you will find out how to take the chamber off. I kid, but it’s not that hard if you don’t treat it too delicately. But I typically just rinse. Maybe I would pay more attention if I wasn’t just using saline in there, but for my cat’s nebulizer for albuterol, usually a rinse periodically was enough for the tube.
For those that want commercial wipes for regular or occasional cleaning, check out the baby aisle.
They have all kinds, much cheaper than others, some with and others without alcohol.
A nurse told me that, they are the same than fancier medicinal wipes, but much cheaper, come in boxes of 100, not 60, like the expensive ones.
