I am looking at 65 sooner than I want. I am riding as much as ever, hunting twice a week, lessons and trail rides, and camping with my horse when the schedule permits. I keep my horses at home. The only concession I’ve had to make is ordering my hay delivered now instead of picking it up and stacking it myself.
As said above, I will ride until I can’t and then hope I die quickly!
I’m 68, crippled with MS and I still ride. If I did not ride I would end up in a nursing home because I would just give up.
Even though I’ve been riding for almost 50 years you know something? I STILL have a hard time getting to sleep the night before my lesson because I am so excited about my lesson!
It isn’t that I do anything exciting when I ride, just boring walking and trotting in the riding ring. But my riding teacher lets me ride horses, mature horses, that have had unfortunate experiences in their past, so much so that the horses had decided that they really did not want much to do with humans any more, except for being fed of course. I ride these horses to the best of my ability, and usually I can coax the horse to learn from me.
The horse and I give each other physical therapy, the horse through its motion moving my body and strengthening the muscles I need for walking myself, and I through giving the horse rational, gradual training.
Horses keep me walking on my own two feet.
I hope to ride until the day I die.
