Age of your oldest cat

Nanna was 23 when she was PTS due to kidney disease. She was a flame point Siamese <3

We have a house full of babies right now minus my parent’s old furry bowling ball who is toddling around at 17 ish. He is fat, semi deaf, and crabby. I wish he lived with me so I could get at least a few pounds off of him but it is what it is and he is a happy fat cat.
The oldest living with us is the 5 yr old park find, followed by the 1.5 yr old former feral, and the 9 month old former feral.
The 1.5 yr old sounds like she’s smoked a pack a day and has minimal coordination to start with. I have no doubt that 20 years from now I’ll be carrying her sorry butt around in a papoose while she screeches for more canned food.

Wow, those are some old cats! We have not been as fotunately, but some of ours have had health issues from the start, so we were lucky to have them for as long as we did. The oldest I had was Bandit - he lived to be 18 in spite of almost dying after beinng hit by a car (broke his jaw in several places - had to have it wired shut, broke his leg in 3 places and his pelvis in 4 places and still survived). Bandit was our first cat (he and his brother Smokey who died at age 2 of cancer). We treated him in a crate for 3 months and gradually he got well. I used to leash walk him, and when I got cancer he was my constant companion - just about the closest to a sould mate in an animal that I could have had. He really got me through that when I was in my teens and almost died myself.

Now my oldest is 14 and she has a bad heart and has issues from when she had spine surgery years ago. When I got this “free” cat, she had a mark on her neck that would not heal. When I brought her to be spayed, the vet offered to laser the spot to see if it would heal up. Turned out he had to do extensive surgery. The person I got her from had a girlfriend who trained GSDs. Evidently she left the cat in it’s crate in a car with the dogs and they attacked it - tore the crate up and got to the cat. When the guy broke up with his girlfriend, he had to rehome his cats, but had them living in his office in cages for 2 months. SHe was a mess this cat. Turns out she had a piece of plastic from the crate embedded in her spine. Looked like she had a zipper down her back the scar was so big. She is still senstive to touch there. Being a “pinto” you can see where her markings were sewn together. She walks with a wobble, and this year has lost a ton of weight. Bloodwork is fine so we are trying various things to help her. She is not a friendly cat, but does want to cuddle on her own terms - you can’t touch her (or she’ll scratch or bote), but she can rub all over you.

I also have a 10 year old, a questionable one who I think is about 10 to 12, another who is 9, another who is probably 5 or 6, another that is 4ish and then Harry Potter who is 2. I have a feral who I think is about 2 years old as well…

My cats have lived to 6 (killed by car, last outdoor cat except for the barn cats I have now), almost 15 (two brothers, came into the world together and went out of it together, one from kidney failure, the other from bowel instruction) and my heart kitty at 19. He died of anal cancer. Had it not been malignant, he would’ve been a good surgical candidate for removal of the tumors. At 19, he had the heart, lungs, and kidneys of a five-year-old, according to my vet. Pretty devastating that he had to get the tumors on his hiney.

Right now, I have Terigo who is 15, Burrito who is 10, and Trouvé who will be 1 in July. All in fine fettle.

My oldest two are 17 and 15 both in good health.

I’ve had my eldest since he was a kitten. He’s 22 now.

None of my current ones are old. I have an 8yo female, 7yo and 5yo males, and a 2yo female. I’ve had one live to be 19, and I’m so happy to say that he used every bit of every life he had - he was such a cool cat. He didn’t pass from anything specific, but he clearly told me one morning that it was time, and so I held him as the vet gave him his final shot. The other one was only 12 and he died from some sort of intestinal cancer (we never did any tests to confirm, but the vet was pretty sure of it). We did palliative care for him for about a year, but it also became very clear that it was his time, so I also held him as he got his last shot.

My roommate has a pair of female siblings (Amanda and Trixie). They’re 16 and doing great. My pair of siblings (Lily and Daisy) are only 3. We call mine “the girls” and hers “the ladies.”

Roxy, my tiny tuxedo, turns 16 in August and is the last of our Colorado kitties.
The next two oldest are turning 12 in the fall…Cowboy and Groucho. The youngest are 3 and a bunch in between…left overs from my foster mom days.

My last cat lived to 17, a pretty good feat considering that he had megacolon from the age of 4. My current kitty is only 9.

15, but diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at age 4… And then CRF in December 2012. Every day is a gift

My childhood cat died just short of 15, and my brother’s at 16. Tobey was 12. Dylan is 13 and in great health. knocks on wood

Sounds like Siamese kitties are some of the ones getting older. Ours is a flame point siamese(we think).
Yesterday our kitty, her name is Biskit, came into my room which is unfamiliar territory. Since she is blind she couldn’t find her way around or out, so ran into a wall before I was able to help her. I got her into her familiar area and of course she started screaming at me for food, even though she already had some. Silly.

Ours lived to 19, 20 and 22. A Siamese, a Russian blue, and a stray. Current ‘kittens’ just turned 12.

A Birman, 21 years.
Her son, 20 years
A long-haired stray I found in a park, 18 years.

I agree NBChoice! My oldster was a Siamese as is my current cat. Both are/were the old style – applehead, big bodied. They’re not the more angular, thinner show types.

This thread makes me happy. My cat will be 14 in July, and I’ve had him since he was 8 weeks old (and I was 9 years old). He’s a European shorthair that we got from a questionable pet shop in France back when we lived there. He’s lived in four different houses and been on several plane rides - he’s such a trooper and he’s my darling. I often worry about him just in general (can’t bear the thought of losing him yet) but after reading this I hope and think he’ll be okay for a while yet. He’s in good health so far as we know, and to be honest he looks just as he did ten years ago. He’s even lost a couple of pounds in the past few years (which was good, he was a tad fat), and he seems pretty trim and happy. After reading this thread, I don’t consider him so old anymore =)

My oldest cat will be 18 at the end of this month. I have had him since he was 2 months old! My other two are rescues and I only know their approximate ages - one is an estimated 16 yrs old, the other 11 yrs old.
