Aiden update.. Posted Pictures! Must end the Aiden thread. Aiden is doing excellent. THANK YOU COTH!!! (137) 1/23

You really are da bomb.

Thank you for the wonderful update I was getting a little worried last night, even though I know that sleep is a good thing when you are trying to heal.

Hope all the Hawks are doing well this morning!!

What if the Hokey Pokey IS what its all about?

at 5:10 this morning our transplant coordinator called me and said, " Lisa, we got the PERFECT liver." sara was laying in the next bed over and I turned around and she had her hand clasped over her mouth and was crying with me.

Joey is all the way down in Florida getting the baby ready to come for his new liver. They should be here by 9:00am. God placed me all the way up here because He knew that I needed to be “here” and let Joey take care of the “getting here”.

I will post as soon as I know something. Please remember the family that lost their baby right before Christmas, that is making this possible. There are angels watching over us this morning. God bless that family.

OKay I am spinning and need to go and get ME ready for this surgery. Thanks you please pray harder than ever. Love you XOXO

Rolex - have your received anything that was sent directly to the hospital address that was posted way back? It’s just a card and a picture, but wanted to make sure. I really want to needlepoint an Xmas stocking for him!

We are all praying for Aiden, his family and Knowonder! Let’s hope this Christmas is extra-special!

If the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, you can bet they don’t have horses…

Thank God!! Aiden is one tough kid!

Yay Aiden!!! That is wonderful!!

I am only able to check these boards once a day and am always amazed at how many pages have been added since the previous day.

A very Merry Christmas to the Hawk family and everyone on this BB!!

Indecision may or may not be my problem.

What a Christmas…you will remember this day for the rest of your life. All I have to say is Thank God for allowing him to be so young and going through these surgeries…at least he will have no bad memories. Congratulations on your fantastic gift of a “new” life for your beautiful little angel.

“The daughter who won’t lift a finger in the house is the same child who cycles madly off in the pouring rain to spend all morning mucking out a stable.” (Samantha Armstrong)

There is so much stuff I have to do in the house, but every 10 minutes I find myself sitting here, looking for the latest update.

In our prayers, let’s remember the family that donated their precious baby’s liver to give another precious baby a chance. This is a bittersweet moment.

I’ll send another $15 if we can change knowonder’s BB title permanently to the one Lord Helpus suggested.

Come on sweet baby. We all know you are a fighter, keep it up little one. Our love and thoughts are with you here in Virginia.

Please hear our prayers, Dear Creator…please watch over this child and touch him with your healing hand. Let not the gift of Aiden’s donor, who is now in your loving embrace, be in vain…we beseech you. Please hear our prayers, and intercede on behalf of these innocent souls in your keeping.

Our hearts cry out to you, at this, our hour of need. Guide the doctors’ skillful hands…and give strength to Baby Aiden and his parents.

Just wanted to post one last time that you, Aiden and your family will remain in my thoughts and jangles.

So glad everything has gone well for our little fighter and that you can end this thread with a happy heart!!

What a major step in Aiden’s progress. Whoopee! I am just truly amazed at the little guy’s spirit.

I found this info on the web site for Cinti children’s and thought it was ironic.

Perhaps one day there will no more babies that will have to go through what Aiden and the Hawks have had the courage to face.

Cincinnati Children’s Earns NIH Grant for Biliary Atresia Center

Grant Underscores Status As Leading Liver Care Center

CINCINNATI – Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center has received a five-year grant of approximately $845,000 from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to establish a Center for Biliary Atresia ”" a life-threatening condition that is the main reason for liver transplantation in children.

Cincinnati Children’s is one of only nine sites in the nation to receive funding to establish a Center for Biliary Atresia. All nine institutions will collaborate as part of a nationwide Biliary Atresia Research Consortium that will establish a database of clinical information and serum and tissue samples from children with biliary atresia.

Cincinnati Children’s Center for Biliary Atresia will be directed by Jorge Bezerra, MD, a physician/researcher in the division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.

Biliary atresia occurs in infants and usually becomes evident two to eight weeks after birth. Symptoms include unexplained jaundice, dark urine, clay-colored stools and weight loss. The disease destroys bile ducts in the liver, trapping bile and rapidly causing damage and scarring to liver cells.

Biliary atresia accounts for up to 60 percent of children who undergo liver transplantation. Although surgery (Kasai procedure) is successful in many infants, three of every four children who have biliary atresia need a liver transplant before the age of 20.

“The cause of biliary atresia is unknown, and the total annual cost, including transplant care, of treating infants with biliary atresia is estimated to be $65 million,” says Dr. Bezerra. “Increased understand of the pathogenesis of biliary atresia and the development of novel therapeutics to treat it would have a major impact on children’s health and medical economics in the United States.”

Dr.Bezerra will be the principal investigator of two research protocols:

A one-year study will explore the potential regulatory role of immunity genes in the pathogenesis of biliary atresia. The suppression of these genes may be temporarily restricted to the first three months of life in infants with biliary atresia, according to Dr. Bezerra.

A three-year study will determine the effectiveness of steroids on the outcome of infants with biliary atresia. It is believed that steroids may improve bile drainage after a Kasai procedure.

What a rollercoaster you all have been on…the prayers won’t stop coming from this direction until brave Aiden is completely out of the woods. Stay strong!
Susan

Pardon this eventer’s ignorance, but is there not a minimum age for leadline classes?

Next summer, Aiden will be… how old?.. 15 months or so? Do people really enter children that young in leadline classes?

But it would certainly be ever so cute.

Good Morning Hawk Family. That was a nice article in the St. Pete’s newspaper. Who cares if we sell horse semen? The point is we will do anything for our angel Aiden!

I like the term “power nap” as someone described sleeping well. Don’t we all feel refreshed after one? Aiden really needs several going thru his ordeal.

Today is the anniversary of my Dad’s death. I will light 2 candles; one to honor my Dad’s life and the other to wish Aiden a bright future. I pray you have a good day. God bless everyone.
