I suppose the restaurant situation assessment in Aiken is dependent on your life experience and expectations.
I grew up here so my restaurant tastes tend towards fried chicken, fried okra, grits, biscuits, and barbecue pork. But I live in an equine community of ex-pats from New York and California and to listen to their takes on Aiken it is the gastronomic end of the earth. 
I recently had to listen to a herd of them complaining about the lack of butcher shops and delicatessens. Around here, the deli is at the front of the grocery store and Boar’s Head brand meats top the gourmet list.
Try Bobby’s BBQ, on the Jefferson Davis Highway. It’s a buffet. The desert choice of us locals is banana pudding.
Whiskey Alley for food! All the tack stores!
