updating in case I’m not the only one…
the fork was a bust. Trying to decide exactly how wrong it is to borrow someone’s immersion blender before pulling out the Cuisinart… probably 8 out of 10 wrong.

It may not want to go back. I don’t know if Akene has a spoiling date, but it may have spoiled if it was heated too much. Sort of like milk curdling. I think there are probably some animal/plant products in it that would spoil. Maybe contact butet and get their advice? Who knows maybe they’ll just send you a new tub if you explain that it’s expensive for you and suggest that it may be defective lol, or at least a discount on it. I don’t know how good their customer service is, but I guess we’ll see. Worth a try at least.
Wait, you can make pie crust but not salad dressing?
immersion blender. They are the best.
Just dropping in to say that every time I see this thread, I start singing the Offspring’s “Come Out and Play” in my head.
You know, “My Akene is separated.”

What, what and what?
The fork didn’t work? What happened? How is a fork (and your arm) not just a scaled-down blender?
What’s an immersion blender?
I don’t drink or eat carbs any more, so I’m completely SOL with respect to the vodka pie crust. So, so sad. (And also, how do people invent random foods that include booze or deep frying? They sound like they started as dares.) But I was taught how to make a quality pie crust, with lard. Old skool… and now useless to me. Sigh.
Back to the Akene. If it didn’t submit to a fork, I’d be tempted to teach it a lesson with a Cuisinart. But I think the clean up will be a tad involved. The person who suggested soaking all the plastic-y parts in Dawn afterward is right. I think the Akene could get the last laugh by leaving its scent in your Cuisinart forever.
It’s the “scaled down” that’s the kicker here. I lasted a good 10 minutes without measurable progress, then remembered that the Cuisinart goes in the dishwasher. And my big one will drizzle the oil in for me.
An immersion blender is like a little blender on a stick that you just hold in your soup or whatever and it blends it. I don’t have one so that’s the extent of my knowledge.
No carbs or alcohol? Whoa. I’m impressed. Man, would I also be thin… hmmm. And angry. Never mind.
Try warming up the Akene first - since we are apparently not aghast by the idea of using kitchen utensils, pour it out into some sort of brownie pan or something similar. Warm it up at 250 for a couple minutes - you want it warm to the touch but not hot that it scalds. I think my SO would shrivel in horror if he saw me using the immersion blender for tack stuff… he’s lucky he wasn’t home when I experimented with making my own packing balm for abscesses
You should be able to mix it in better that way.
FWIW, never used Akene but sympathize with expensive things separating. Few years ago I made my own leather balm (beeswax, coconut oil, some EVO, and a few saponified oils for good measure). It will separate if left too long. I heat it up in the method above and it has not to date upset the integrity of the product.
Aghast? This is tack cleaning we’re talking about here. It’s important! Good idea to warm it up first, esp since my house is freezing. (Horse naturally is toasty in his blankets. Priorities.)
FWIW, the oven at 250 is also a perfect temperature for warming up tack that needs a good oiling.
I won’t tell you about the time SO found strap goods roasting in the oven
you’re brave - if I put my tack in the oven I’d definitely forget it and then turn the broiler on.
The part of my immersion blender that actually immerses in the thing does come off and can go in the dishwasher.

I always find it so humorous when people on the web tell other people to “get a life”. Makes me wonder if they are projecting their own insecurities about their personal short-comings onto complete strangers.
Do know that this is a forum, where threads of every variety exist. Considering it’s a horse forum, the subjects can be quite vast. Think about it this way – this is a genuine question that if you overheard in your barn’s tack room you wouldn’t bat an eye towards. Why is it any different now?
Dressage rider visiting here, and I am unfamiliar with Akene.
I googled, and had flowers show up–???
“Akene. (A-keen’) A small, dry, one-seeded fruit in which the seed sits free inside the hollow fruit, attached only by the stem of the ovule. Achenes are indehiscent (they do not split open when ripe). The fruits of the sunflower and elm are achenes.”
Please, do tell me about YOUR Akene, and its use. I am an avid tack cleaner/caretaker, and it sounds like I need to learn about it. And how to store it.
Yah, so, maybe I need to get a life.
OMG this thread just bookended my day perfectly… Just the right amount of trivia and ingenuity.
I think the slight warming method sounds quite promising…

It’s a really fantastic conditioner, much more on the lines of a lotion than the beeswax based Passier and effax. I like to use it when I plan to put a layer of saddle soap on to seal the leather.

I am very insecure. ps if I did hear this question in our tack room I would take it as a signal to go ride my horse and stop listening to bullshit
