I hope what you ordered works well for you but if not, i highly recommend the Guardian Mask. The one i have is going on 4 years old, looks as good as day 1 and works better than anything else i have seen. Definitely money well spent.
Fly mask arrived yesterday, just in time for sunny weather today. I really like it, we shall see what Sydney thinks of it.
I do think I am going to have to order one without the nose part for riding (and possibly without the ear part too), or possibly a different style all together to use just for riding. I can see the straps interfering with the bridle, especially when I ride English and my bridle is a pretty close fit.
I look forward to hearing how it holds up and if your horse keeps it on.
Well the first fly mask that I ordered…the Velcro started to separate from the actual mask after a week of use. The good news is that the company I bought it from sent me a new one promptly when I reported the issue. I do hope that this won’t be an ongoing issue though. This mask, so far, is staying on and not showing any other signs of use. Last year she was a major Houdini in her fly mask and her muzzle, I am rather impressed that she hasn’t managed to get the mask off once yet.
Good to know ~ considering one …
Thank you for updating us.
Bumping this up. I just ordered one from BigDee’s. I hope it works well. The price tag is much nicer than the Guardian Mask. We’re battling a nasty corneal ulcer right now and he hates being in during the day away from his friends.
I figured I might as well update since this thread got bummed. Fly mask is doing okay. I did have to call them within the first week to tell them that the velcro has begun to rip apart. They sent me a new mask at no charge. I haven’t had to use it yet as the velcro didn’t rip any further. It has started to separate from the mask though, and there are a couple of holes that have developed in the mesh part that covers her ears. The material that covers her face is holding up well.
One pony with uveitis had the guardian at one barn and it worked fine although it sometimes rubbed the face. It is worth the price.
I hope the vet got all of the cancer and that your horse lives for a long time.
Buy the mask, but pad it if it rubs.
