OP: I would not necessarily wear brown boots to show UNLESS I had brown tack. So IM humble opinion, the brown would be great.
Thatâs not what the rules say though. The rule talking about the HSV color scale starts with âat all test levels.â
I donât think so. The rule says âboots may be the same color as the coat,â not âboots may follow the same color rules as the coatâ or something like that.
Definitely a lot of doubt here!!!
Yes, I said that in my comment. I donât really understand what your comment is trying to refute in mine.
I went ahead and wrote to USEF for clarification. I donât want to get dismissed and I wonât pay $350 for a brown coat.
right, LOOK AT THE PICTURES in the PDF. they are an exact match to the coats.
Iâm sticking with black and white! much easier.
So I remeasured my calf, and it is exactly 17 inches. The MH boots say the regular calf is 15 3/8"-16 1/8". I was going to go ahead and try it, but I suspect that 16 1/8 is how much they stretch with the elastic. I imagine the leather would relax some with useâŠbut probably not that much.
Not the best boots on the market but if used just for shows should hold up. I have a pair (not the ones below), no issues, leather is supple and nice, reviews for the boot are good on this web site.
Oh, maybe I misunderstood due to your semi-colon placement. It looked like you were saying that the HSV color scale rules apply above Fourth Level when in reality the rule that mentions that starts with âat all test levels.â
OP, I hope you can find some boots that are both pretty and comfortable! I found those in my Cavallo Insignis boots, but unfortunately they turned out to be not durable at all despite the pretty high price point (for me).
Got the brown tack covered!
I also think I am back to looking at the De Niros for my boot fitting needs. When I put in all my dimensions I was quoted $350 + whatever shipping will be for the basic brown De Niros.

this addresses colors, they must fall in a certain shade range. After looking at it, itâs easier just to go black.
Yeah, right? I read that too and thought, âWTF!?â You may wear any hue (âcolorâ) and any saturation (âvibrancyâ) but donât you dare wear anything with a âvalueâ above 32%! How do they possibly enforce this?
I saw all the formulas for calculating the colors and my eyes went a bit crossed. I am glad that I only want navy things, and arenât thinking about anything super out there as far as color. I use to love Kerrits seafoam colored jacket before they discontinued it. I donât know where I would even begin on calculating the legality of that one! http://www.hand-gallop.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/CompetitorsKoat-JasperWhite-40310-3.jpg
what annoys me is there is a difference in screen colors (both between screens) and IRL colors.
I assume you need to compare the %s with the actual fabrics, correct? (hold the fabric to the screen as you calculate % )
Another question that just came to mindâŠmy gloves. Iâm wearing a navy coatâŠshould I go with navy gloves? Black gloves? White gloves? At a clinic a couple of years ago a judge told me that white gloves show that the rider is more confident vs black gloves where they might be trying to hide something. Not sure if I believe that or not.
Still trying to sort out my boots. I pulled my Ariats out last night, and they are looking a bit sadder than I remember.
Itâs too bad brown coats are so expensive, I would totally rock out a brown dressage coat, brown helmet, and brown boots.
I wore both a navy coat and a grey coat with brown boots at USDF shows all last winter in 3rd and 4th level. I also wore the navy with brown boots combo at the regional championships. I saw lots of brown boots with various colors of coats. The all looked good, none of the TDs cared about the color
It is too light on the HSV color scale, and the old pattern is likely not considered âconventional.â At least on my computer screen, it matches a 75% lightness, and coats are required to be between 0-32% lightness.
Youâre really not going to be able to tell the difference from the distance of the judge between navy and black. I agree with the judgeâs statement about white gloves. Or I guess, maybe everyone with dark gloves isnât actively trying to hide anything, but white are far less forgiving.
I think navy, although black would be fine too. Iâve never worn white gloves and I have fine hands, black just seemed more economical and logical as far as keeping clean - Iâve never tried to hide anything. Any salt-worthy judge should be able to spot bad hands from across the arena regardless of glove color, anyway.
