Amanda Moritz of Beeville, Texas (neglect case) - SHE MAY BE MOVING TO VA or to......

Well this is certainly not good news. These people always seem to resurface like a bad penny.

Website doesn’t work, since she states there’s a lot of tack for sale – like every brand of saddle-- but no listings.

It’s pretty clear it’s all about the money, copied from the first thing you see on the website:

We do offer easy check via Google. We also accept money orders, checks, google account, credit cards over the phone and cash. Please let us know if you would like to pay a different way.

and again in the second paragraph:

We can set up a purchase contract if payments are needed, breeding contract for stud service, or training. We also take money orders, personal checks, business checks and credit cards. Cash is always welcome.

Scary: “We do have rescued horses on the property”

How terrible that this person continues to have animals.

This is true - she’s about 3 miles from my house. She was at “Liberty Ranch” which is the old J&J Horse Boarding across the street from the State Park, but things went south there quickly. From what I heard, the farm’s owner found out about her history, went to check on things and found that horses weren’t being fed and they were run out. She then went to her grandmother’s place which she now calls “Lil Bits Ranch”.

A person I know had a recent bad run in with her. She sold Amanda a horse on payments, Amanda stopped paying and the horse was taken back. When she got there to pick her up, she was a few hundred pounds underweight and in need of some TLC.

The website said it is copyrighted to 1997. Does the tack store follow along with her or has she been in NY for a while?

My understanding is that she’s been in WNY for about 2 years now.

I think there was a seizure in Texas sometime in 2010 (that I wasn’t part of - I was involved with the one in 2003 and 2008, testified at both hearings) and she probably moved after that.

The “Tack store” has followed her around. She had a similar webpage when she was in Texas - had horses for sale on her webpage that she never had at her place (and wasn’t selling for anyone, I think she was picking pictures on the internet and making it look like she had the horses).

I agree…the mentally deficient ones do have the same expressions…desperate and defiant at the same time. However I don’t think there’s as many actually clinically mentally ill hoarders out there as the media sometimes portrays. Many times lazy neglectful folks are mislabelled as real hoarders and they just aren’t dealing with a mental illness as much as dealing with being a class A assbucket. I just hate to see mental illness thrown about as an excuse or catch-all phrase. This particular woman has an ad or two online for horse sales…hoarders don’t generally sell their animals.
After I got over the semi-blindness from the bra-less-ness I was just surprised to see that in physical appearance she looked just like quite a few other neglecting abusers who’ve made the news time and time again. None of which were hoarders but most of whom were bad dealers/faux rescuers letting horses starve as they begged for money to spend on themselves, etc. They all seem to look the same…I’m finding that odd. Like now the FBI can profile them. She has a very similar appearance to that MeSue woman, that woman who photoshopped her butt on Fugly and a bunch of others I’ve seen photos of.

The list just goes on and on…they’re all pretty similar in appearance. And thhose are just a small handful of abusers and neglectors who were convicted somewhat recently. All female, around the same age and a very similar appearance. Odd.
Yep, and don’t forget Camille Hankins - not a horse hoarder but a cat and dog hoarder, convicted of animal cruelty in 1994 for having 81 animals stuffed in her trailer. She now spearheads W.A.R. (Win Animal Rights, the ‘day shift’ of ALF), and is especially involved in the anti-carriage horse operations here in NYC. Ah, irony:

Just an FYI - Apparently Amanda Moritz is now going by Amanda York.

In googling the phone numbers, you’ll pull up the old Liberty Ranch and Lil’ Bits websites associated with Amanda.

Just to add in, Devorah Aikman is now asking for money, too. But a bit of Bing-ing and you’ll find all sorts of things about her. She says the DA in Stephenville is after her. Also, she had a run in with LeAnn Rimes Cibrian about her marriage, on Twitter.

Bumping up.

Most recent dreamhorse ad has a new website: http://www.jayorkfarms.com/

The picture on the home page is a stock photo and is NOT their farm.

ja york, stands for James & Amanda, she’s suppose to be married to the 70+ yr. old,

she’s suppose to be married to the 70+ yr. old, man, so I heard, she poured a big sob story to him after she got booted off J & J property, and yes she still is in the eyes of the SPCA, she just off-loaded her so called $80,000.00 Arab Paint stud with a gelding so they wouldn’t be picked up by SPCA…

Ok seriously, I hate bras, I only wear one at work (and that is a new development) and funerals and weddings. Don’t lump us all the same  I am currently at critter capacity with 2 horses, 2 dogs, 2 cats.

Now that I have defended my lack of bra wearing self, any idea of where in VA?

Earlier this year, she was in NY state. I talked to an animal control officer who was dealing with her there. (Maybe 2-3 months ago?). Don’t know if she’s still there now…

She’s still here. In fact, curiosity got the better of me and I drove past her place just the other day. She has herself set up as the last house on a dead end road - the perfect place to have no passing traffic. What I saw from the road was really sad. She has several horses in tiny paddocks which have been constructed out of odds-and-ends fencing - snow fence, wire, rope, etc. It generally looks unsafe and none of the horses look particularly thrifty. I didn’t see any hay and the grass was sparse. The horse have taken to eating the bark off the trees so I’m sure the trees which are providing “shelter” will be dead soon. In the two tiny paddocks, there were probably about ten horses total. She is still actively posting on our local craigslist selling arabs and arab crosses. These horses are frequently listed in poor shape and in the $100-150 range and she advertises them as “rescues.”

Here are some of her ads:

http://buffalo.craigslist.org/grd/3993717987.html

http://rochester.craigslist.org/grd/3993621383.html

In Texas, she wasn’t on a dead end street but she had so many mesquite and other scrub trees that you could rarely see the horses. Reports were made when people went to drop off or pick up horses, and the sheriff’s deputies saw them when they were serving warrants for other things.

sigh Poor horses.

Please everyone know that Amanda York is still at it in Darien, NY. I just took a thoroughbred gelding from there 3 weeks ago. I had NO IDEA about her past but as soon as I arrived to see the horse that was listed on craigslist I knew something was up. I got about 5 different stories on this OTTB gelding. After much investigating I found his old, unsuspecting owner that had placed him with contract to a trainer that then sold him to Amanda. She gave the trainer a sob story about buying him for her disabled son, etc etc. BEWARE!!! I am spreading the word locally as much as I can. She has a current listing on the Buffalo, NY craiglist right now…a pregnant arab mare. Ugh.

Thanks for the update and welcome to Coth.

sheza, could you PM me with the information on this horse, including his registered name, if possible. I have a few connections, both in rescue and at the track, and I’d like to get as much information to them as possible. In particular, if I knew the registered name of the TB, I could get word directly to the trainer.
Apparently she can’t afford a bra either.
Seriously…why does almost every single hoarder, abuser or collector always look the same? Almost every single one I’ve seen featured in the news in the last decade or so have looked exactly like the last one.
Try being an overweight, middle-aged, white, female humane investigator!

Talk about personifying or embodying a demographic

However, I LOVELOVELOVE Enell bras, so maybe that’s how I’ve stayed off the road to hoarderdom?

Will add my own cast of characters when I get home . . .
