An Official "Only on craigslist" thread?

This guy looks so thin

I can’t squeeze anything into our menagerie else I’d go get him. I’ve wasted $400 on shoes…wish I knew someone around here. Wonder if someone like Lori Gregg would take on a project like this…and if he really is 16hh…

I need more space. :frowning:

I would probably have the space… but the money to go get him is nowhere to be found :frowning: If anyone wanted to get him, I’m sure he’d be a sweet guy. We all need more space for special horses :frowning:

Look at the legs on the jenny in the 2nd picture. My lord! She’d be a great candidate for someone wanting to breed for a leggy sport mule!

This sounds like a smart deal. I wonder what kind of insurance they would have to carry to do this?

Couldn’t resist sharing this. I’d detail what it is, but that would ruin the surprise.

“She will be a year in may. Very friendly. White with drown patches. Email for more info. Willing to trade for 10-20 acers in north west arkansas.”

Hmmm… looks like it could be a donkey no a vanner…?

Good grief! You’d think for that kind of money they’d at least make an attempt to get a decent picture and maybe groom her.

IMHO This doesn’t sound any different from any other lease agreement…it’s just that it is marketed to a little different crowd.

I’d be more than willing to trade a yearling of mine for 20 acres! That would run you at least $5k an acre down here!

What is going on in the 4th picture down? http://rmn.craigslist.org/grd/3679472299.html Am I really seeing a horse being lunged with a single line the is running from the “trainer’s” hand to the center of the girth, between the front legs, through the outside stirrup and to the outside of the bit??? Really??? Or are my eyes deceiving me?

Someone here had an ad for a horse and a “bassist”.
I wonder if they were disbanding a mounted band?

Then read the ad and it was a basset.

Another winner ad:

(Title) crazy horse - $1 (columbia )

(Body of ad)

she is crazy lol
stubborn
but sweet most of the time
make an offer
need her gone by Friday
I think she is papered too

I think someone is trying to sell my horse!!!

Is she long lining him?

There are always gems to be found on the middle-of-nowhere Illinois craigslist, but the line “I WAS NICE ENOUGH TO FEED HIM ALL WINTER FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT THIS SUMMER.” really jumped out at me.

I guess we should all be glad he is actually being fed unlike many other local owners who probably would just stop feeding all winter.

Unfortunately this generosity doesn’t extend to hoof care.

If you breed a jenny to a horse, the resulting offspring is called a hinny, not a mule. Just sayin’. They pretty much look the same.

While I think the quote does stand out as unusual- I think it’s just down homey horsetrader humor- not really saying that feeding the animal was optional- he just means that buying a horse in the spring when someone else already paid for the past winter’s food- is a good deal if you are just a summertime sort of rider. I find it more humorous than menacing.

Perhaps I was reading it too cynically - while pony shopping, I looked at far too many ponies in the area whose owners had seemingly stopped providing them any sort of care once they were not “useful”, but I can see how it would be mean humorously as well now that you point it out
