I dont get a flu shot why should my horse? [/QUOTE]

Ever heard of herd immunity?

Those who can’t get the shots have a way around it. Those who can but don’t, well… there are words for your attitude which are not allowed on this forum. But I feel for any horses who suffer because of your poor, selfish decisions.

Thank you for the reminder, I need to stop at Wegmans and get my flu shot. I believe in herd immunity mentality.

I have one horse that had a severe (laminitis) response to shots this spring. I am working with the vet to figure out how to move forward with her vaccinations, not just throwing in the towel and saying others can do it, but I will not.

I have a horse whose reaction was so bad to the rhino vaccine that he almost died. For him, we’d rather take our chances that he get rhino than try the vaccine again (although he does get a flu vaccine on its own!). He’s 25 and not showing anymore, so the rule change proposal doesn’t affect me, but I feel for the people who are affected. I’m very much pro-vaccine, but not when it is so dangerous for the horse.

That being said, as much of a pain as it may be to record temps twice a day, I don’t think this is a bad idea. Requiring the horses who CAN get the vaccines to have them will protect all of the horses, including those who can’t get the vaccine for whatever reason.

Yes. And exactly why those of us who can need to get them.
