Andrew Kocher - electrical spurs?

Huh???
[/quote]

My thoughts exactly.

As I recall, part of the problem with the suspensions after the insurance fraud case was that there was literally not a rule in the rule book for a lifetime ban. Apparently it had just never occurred to them that they would need such a thing. So they had to write a new rule to have that option available in the rule book for later use.

@Victorious from a historical standpoint, when the poor embrace trash, the repurcussions are less widely felt.

I understand your point. I think painting large groups of folks with a label that they all might not deserve is not always super beneficial and clouds the issue that really should be the focus. That was all I was saying.

I do not understand how the horse owner(s) in this case; that had knowledge about the abuses for months/years; don’t have any sanctions or repercussions?

Not that would be expected by USET/USEF after giving awards to a billionaire horse owner who harbored a notorious sexual trafficker/predator.

The moral compass must be off kilter when big $,$$$,$$$ donations are involved in that case?

Disappointed doesn’t begin to describe it. Sigh. Hello FEI…

You are who you hang out with.

Are you who the people you know hang out with too?

Seriously. I have a ton of people in my life that I do things with that I have no idea about who they might be friends with when I am not around.

A couple of years back, I had my young horse with lovely, thoughtful trainers who seemed to train and treat their horses with kindness and understanding. However, more than once I heard them mention “their good friend Andy Kocher” and I’ll admit I kept MUCH closer tabs on my horse after the first mention.

My thoughts exactly but when Navalo died did you see all the comments of support and sympathy Andy got. Andy reads them. I said basically what you wrote here back then and he blocked me to make sure I couldn’t post anything on his personal page.

Right – I was more disturbed by the Chef’s statement than USEF’s. I know there are limitations to what we can punish based on evidence, but am I really supposed to read a statement about how the US Jumping Team doesn’t tolerate abuse or cheating, when it’s pretty apparent that they were? I hope I’m being too harsh here…but jeez.

Dagnabit!!

Apparently, the 20 year FEI ban that Endurance rider got was negated.

Disappointed doesn’t scratch the surface of this… SIGH!

These are my same sentiments. I posted something similar at the time Carollo was abused. I was so appalled when Navalo died and how Andy received so many condolences as if he was such a sympathetic person when an investigation should have been done then. Robert Ridland should be fired. He put Andy on the team when anyone with half a brain knows what was going on. He’s as bad as Andy. Similar situation with Devin Ryan. With so many true horsemen out there this guy chooses scumbags. Cause he is no horseman himself. He’s of their ilk.

It’s interesting that the FEI still hasn’t released their reasoning. I’ve never seen such a gap between release of the decision and the reasoning.

Over a month later and the FEI still hasn’t published their reasoned decision in the Kocher electric spur suspension. Do any attorneys have a guess as to why this is?

It very unusual for them to publish the suspension without the reasoning.

Could it be because they found him to have violated the “criminal acts” rule and some legal procedures have yet to be settled?

That seems most likely

Thanks @hoopoe .

The TL;DR:

  • Kocher is banned from participating in any way (including spectating) for 10 years from all FEI and National Federation events.
  • DQ’d from all 8 events that had photographic evidence that electric spurs were used at, and ordered to return all money/prizes. Events ranged from June 2018 to Oct 2019
  • a fine of 10,000 swiss francs
  • payment of 7,500 swiss francs to offset cost of tribunal proceedings

May he rot.

$16 grand plus whatever he took home as prize money should be enough to effectively bankrupt him. Safesport can also whomp him on the head with The Ban Hammer, for animal cruelty.

After conversion rate, it’s closer to 20k USD.

Looking at all the competitions he’s been DQ’d from, it amounts to 29 top ten finishes, and many many entries. No idea what the actual dollar amount that has to be returned is, but I’m guessing it’s significant.

yes the personal fine is 19,500 $ As far as the prize money, wouldn’t that go to the horses owners? If so I assume he took a cut and will be on the civil hook to return that to owners who had to repay their prize money to the show(s) ? All in all a complicated situation.

while I appreciate the FEI effort to hide the names of witnesses, I assume most will be named out by people who have more intimate knowledge of the whos who of these circles. I hope they will not suffer further consequence.
