Animal Cruelty Allegations - Cumberland Riding Academy, Hendersonville, TN

Just as disturbing:

From Rate My Horse Pro Article:

You can’t justify the video away," says Tara Oliver, who inquired about boarding at Cumberland Riding Academy not long ago, but ended up at another local facility. Oliver says she saw the video online Sunday and called the stable’s owner, Daniela Romo-Leroux the next morning. Oliver says she was disturbed when Romo-Leroux called the person who took the video a criminal.

Gross.

I hate go fund me pages, but I would totally donate to one set up to pay for lessons for the kid that taped the abuse at any new barn

Additionally, what kind of child-like demon writes her entire website in Comic Sans?

This is brilliant! I would SO chip in!

I hope the parents of the kid(s) tell those children how proud they are of them for at least documenting the abuse so adults can do something about it. I also hope the parents follow up with authorities and push for something to be done about this. I’m sure there are other barns those kids that are banned from the premises can take lessons at. And if I were a parent, I would not let my kid set foot in that barn again anyway!

Obviously the barn owner is just as bad as the abusive trainer. Feel so bad for that poor saintly school pony who has to suffer in the hands of 2 idiots.

I feel bad for the pony too… wish someone would buy him… he clearly deserves better than this owner is willing to do/be for him

But do you think they would sell the pony, even if someone offered to buy him for a fair price? My guess is no. That pony probably makes them too much money to sell.

Another local news story, reporting additional cases of students and parents witnessing abuse:

Mom says there are more incidents of abuse at Hendersonville horse training school

Hopefully clients and former clients will turn up the pressure and the local authorities will do something.

Striking a horse with a whip?? JFC is this still news? What a bunch of crybabies.
I prefer an old zebco fishing pole. It has the flexibility to wrap around both hams, makes a good whistlin noise too. Now that…is an attention getter. Keep sucking in air while I’m trying to cinch that girth strap.

Did I seriously just read that comment??? This whole think makes me want to barf, Those poor poor ponies and kids :frowning: As stated before I’d love to whip the shit out of both the trainer and the BO…. >:(

Agreed.
Which makes me more confuzzled about why you would let Anyone treat such an asset of your business [he does lessons and gets leased it appears, not to mention shows and is adorbs!] in a way that might make him NOT want to be part of this game anymore.

I would like to know what Daniela and the trainer are telling their current clients, because I’m not sure who on earth would continue patronizing a business with such horrible allegations against them. Reporters have been out in front of the place all week. I would want zero part of that.

But at the same time, I know that Daniela makes a point to keep her clients dumb and in the dark when it comes to horses. As much as Daniela tries to make the place appear like a top show barn, it is a beginner lesson barn that caters to newbie kids with upper middle class parents. It is rare for students to advance very far beyond the beginner ranks. If they do, it is unlikely they stay very long. Usually by that point they either realize the shortcomings of the barn or butt heads with Daniela, as she is an extraordinarily difficult person to get along with.

Thanks to all this, I just saw that they have qualified a pony for Pony Finals. In years past, I have never once known them to attend anything more than schooling shows. I guess that has changed since they hired Miss “Whips Ponies In The Face.” Although it looks like the pony qualified by winning Reserve Champion out of a division with 4 entries. It was a 50/50 shot.

Yeah, unfortunately. Cowboy deserves an upgrade, but he’s $$$ to those schmucks.

What I’ve read about her though gives the impression that she’s not much of a horsewoman though, in the sense that she’s only been riding a few years… and bought her way up to the level she rode/rides at?

She was really hanging her hat on the fact that she had business acumen through all her degrees and jobs at big firms… that doesn’t seem to be playing out here either though.
And if she doesn’t figure out that the horses/ponies who give the lessons and do the shows are the REAL investment that should, perhaps, be treated as the valuable assets they are… well she won’t have to worry about using her business degrees for running that farm long anyway… IMO

Can this thread’s title be changed to include the farm, owner, and trainer names in it so it can be a top google hit so hopefully people can make informed discussions once the news stories die down?

Consider it done.

Although, you all might need to get your popcorn ready.

Good call. I’m not trying to start trouble, so I changed it back again. I just think the story needs to be out there.

OP, I forget exactly how the rules read, but the accusations are public record so I think that use of the farm name and “alleged” or “accused of” might fly. Individual names maybe not, but there are news stories, RMHP all have the farm name.

The video is out there and it’s quite damning.

ReSomething- I went with your idea. I hope I am not violating any rules and am more than willing to change it back if it becomes a problem.
