Annual Christmas card exchange

@GallopGirl PM me your address please. I haven’t sent mine out yet.

Gallop Girl, I found you on last year’s list and added you to my list of people to send a card to this year.

So - Canada Post seems nowhere close to a resolution, unless a Christmas miracle happens.

I have all of your cards sitting in a lovely stack next to my parcels… ready to go once things get going again.

Thanks for the update. That is just so ornery, but I suppose well planned to hold a strike right before Christmas. Maybe the postal workers believe it’ll give them leverage. Fingers crossed it gets resolved soon!

Yeah my husband went to mail cards today and USPS wouldn’t/couldn’t take the ones for Canada yet. How are y’all getting packages and other mail delivered in Canada?

I was wondering the same thing. Is there just no mail, period, in Canada?

Various delivery services exist here, just as they do in the states. FedEx, UPS, Purolator (which my phone just attempted to correct to Purgatory  ), CanPar, and the ubiquitous “independent” Amazon delivery drivers.

The US postal service is undoubtedly wanting to avoid having to warehouse mail destined for Canada for an unknown period of time.

The union made a new proposal with a 19% drop in wage increase demands. I don’t know what they replaced it with to make Canada Post claim the union’s proposal was increasing the gap between the two sides.

Yes, other than Amazon… not much is coming in. No cards etc. Even my banking has ground to a halt. We are switching services and account types and apparently the money can’t even all transfer and change without the post!!! You’d think they could dust off the old fax machine at least

So we wait. I’m actually all for some Canada Post reform and a good deal for the workers. I understand why they are doing things at the busiest time of the year, and while it’s frustrating (ie - no, I’m not going to fork out $150 to fed ex my parents xmas package), a bit of patience and things will arrive when they arrive.

Maybe I’ll do a big xmas card display in February! :christmas_tree:

Cards are arriving! I sent the US cards out today and will send the non-US, non-Canada ones out next week.
I did not include a letter, but here’s a version of what it would be:
Hi COTH friends: as you might have read, I suffered a sudden cloudiness of vision in one eye in the middle of November. I went to bed, got up the next day with no change. I saw my optometrist, was rushed to an urgent appt with a retinal specialist, and operated on the next day. !! My retina had a bunch of blood in it, they had to operate to determine that I didn’t have a tear or __ and to get the bleeding stopped. So, I got a little bit behind my holiday planning. The good news: my vision returned 100% and I have no restrictions. The bad news: what causes this? “Bad luck”. No kidding, that was the answer. Uh yeah, that is kinda terrifying.

My fun times: finally got to start training my horse to jump, after two years of injury-related fits and starts and all kinds of other delays. I’ve also started riding some without a bridle, which terrifies my trainer, but is a fun challenge. I was inspired by several sources, in no particular order: Warwick Schiller, a 15 year old rider at my barn, and Brendan Wise. If you have not seen Brendan’s video of bridleless jumping 1.3M at WEC, look it up to be inspired.

Merry Christmas to all!

The story about your retina is… yikes! Relieved it seems to be healed and that you’re back to having fun riding.

I love everyone’s cards! Thank you so much. I’m inspired to step up my game next year. This was my rookie year at both card exchange and secret Santa.

Let us know when we can mail to our Canadian friends!

My Post Office accepted the cards addressed to Canada just a few days ago. Of course, I have no guarantee they’ll actually get there…

mY cards are going out tomorrow and the next day. International peeps, they might arrive in January! I’m so sorry. I couldn’t get it together this year.

Sorry peeps, my cards got delayed.
They were printed incorrectly/poorly & they had to reprint & then reship them to me.
I’m hoping to get mine in the mail tomorrow, but we have a huge winter storm on the way so I may not make it to town.

I am loving all the cards I’ve received so far.
While I missed participating for a couple years due to life, I’ve been enjoying the COTH since the beginning.
It’s great to see the “regulars” and all the new people.
