So the steroids are in and shockwave number 1…puffiness around fetlocks has gone and so have the windgalls!she was super excited to be ridden and felt amazing…I only rode for 15min…me being the nutter that I am I decided to lunge her left and right for about 20 seconds each way tonight, she’s perfect going right now but ever so slightly off going left which is her bad way anyway…JSLR I have another question if you are stI’ll there??did your mare show improvement after her first shockwave and gradually get better after the last one??it’s been such a process getting here, i am trying to be positive but it’s a struggle
Well today we have crashed and burned after 2 years and thousands of dollars we finally figured out my girls lameness, treated it and Im happy to say it worked and was looking forward to her next shockwave session.Only to ride her today and she’s off on her off hind…swollen sheath warm and this time there’s a digital pulse,I can’t believe one horse can have so much bad luck
we are thinking it’s same issue but what’s up with the pulse?! More scans on Monday ;-(
Your horse sounds alike like my mare! Everytime one problem was diagnosed and corrected a new one cropped up! My only guess was that these set backs were likely due to her compensating because of the injured leg. More legs more problems! LOL So sorry you are experiencing this! Also, I apologize for the delay in answering your questions. As far as shockwave, there is an analgesic effect right after treatment so yes she moved better the first few days after treatment. However, it took a total of three treatments for the thickening of the ligament to no longer be noticeable. Her hind legs she had surgery on were prone to stocking up if she wasn’t worked…I don’t know if that was due to the annular ligament or not.
Very much appreciated JLR1,I hope my mare eventually comes right like yours after all of this! P.S with her big hind windgalls did she have a digital pulse?no problem if you can’t answer I feel like I have been drilling you for info but it’s you that sent me in the right direction and pushed my vet…so I really thank you x
I’m really happy to be able to help and hope your mare is on the right path now! To be honest I don’t think I ever checked her digital pulses at the time, so I don’t have any info regarding that. Although I will take an annular ligament problem over a suspensory injury any day, they are similar in that time and patience are the key.
I’m an info junkie!(sorry)Do you remember if the shockwave was done weekly or fortnightly?JLR1…I don’t think you mentioned steroids in sheaths so I’m going to ask vet if he will just shockwave the back ones but they are pretty big,Im just quite scared of the repercussions of too much of it in her system!I wonder too what vets call thickened,I’m sure mine said hers are around 2ml and they are not but I was reading on a website that said if you can see them easily and 2ml and over is classed as thickened…confused… (thinking out loud here
Have edited to say my vet said her annular ligament is about 3 mm! (I dont think he had much to do with this condition)All has gone to pack and she’s short again after vet made me lunge her for him while her legs were working normally for the first time and I feel she’s done the proximal suspensory again
Do I keep handwalking!? I’m at a loss as to what to do…
