Here’s a picture of my dress boots, fresh out of the box and one of my schooling boots (which are three years old now).

I only wear the dress boots for fox hunting and this is the start of the second season in them. They are holding up well. I wear the brown boots for everything (including hunting in them for part of the season last year while waiting for the dress boots to arrive–long story) and are wearing like iron.

The brown boots were about $600 (full custom) and the dress boots were about $800 (also full custom). They have frozen their prices until November, in anticipation of Brexit.

If you look at the brown boots you can see the amount of elastic and the inner panel more easily. As you go up in price there is more leather on the outside of the boot, and the elastic moves to the inside. I just think the “rubberized” elastic looks and feels cheap.

Hers are brown so i will definitely take a closer look tonight. I feel like I would have noticed the elastic if it was that pronounced, though, so perhaps she got an upgraded model. I know she has the leather panel on the inner calf but I never felt it…If it’s got a grain to it, I’ll likely pass, since I don’t have a steady supply of saddles coming my way.

Thank you. I will admit to sometimes just staring fondly at my brown boots.

I have always dealt directly with Cate, the Celeris owner, and she has been wonderful. I got the dress boots to replace another custom pair (Der Dau) after I broke my leg and the old pair didn’t fit anymore. Der Dau wanted to charge me more than twice the cost of the Celeris boots to replace that ONE BOOT for me.

After the accident, I told Cate that my brown boots still fit and wanted to just order the dress boots, but she made sure to have me re-measure to check the width of my ankle, etc. She wants to make sure the boots fit right and will work to make it happen. I really can’t recommend them highly enough and the price point is pretty spectacular.

I would hesitate to go full custom. I’ve had SO many friends have mixed experiences, it is a lengthy process and then when it’s wrong you have little recourse. I recently got these https://amzn.to/31Y0Emb and am in love with them. They look fully custom (if you get properly measured) and my last pair of Sergio Grasso’s lasted almost 10 years.

I had a sub par experience with Vogel. I was measured at a tack store that had someone who measured for Vogel there. The turn around time was decent but the first set of boots did not fit well in the calf. While the company was easy to deal with when I sent them back the first time the repairs they did to fix the calf was so sub par the boots looked awful. They were less willing to help after. I eventually kept the boots with the sub par fix and wore them for a bit but they were so uncomfortable I have gone back to an off the rack boot again and am in the market for a new pair of customs.

Thanks everyone! I think I am going to go with the Fabbri’s, I’ve always heard such mixed reviews about Der Dau and even though they are drool worthy when they fit, I don’t wanna deal with the other issues. I’m planning on ordering them to be here in time for florida, so hopefully if I have any issues I can speak directly with a rep there and have it fixed.

That’s not always feasible for everyone. I have to go custom … there is not a boot on the market that fits me. Small foot, extra extra tall calf (20 in), and extra extra slim calf. It’s not made to my knowledge … and I’ve looked everywhere for years. Tucci comes closest but not quite tall enough.

Absolutely agree this is the best option if your measurements make that possible. I was outside the parameters for all the usual semi-custom options by 1/4-1/2 an inch, it was hugely frustrating to be forced to go custom and then have a really tedious experience! My Der Daus thankfully are super comfortable and I got to keep the pair they damaged cutting it down to match the actual measurements they had, so it ended well but it sucked all the joy out of new boots!

Right now, my favorites are the Tucci. I think they are great, hold up well, and I think they are just BEAUTIFUL. You can get full custom options for under your price point with a lot of regular stuff included already in there. Also, their price point is a little lower than Fabbri (i mean like maybe a $100).

I do like the Fabbri a lot, but I prefer them more as an off the rack vs custom. Almost all of our custom stuff has come out a little off lately, so we’ve been mainly sticking to custom Tuccis unless someone really wants to be measured/fit for custom Fabbri/loves Fabbri.

Albertos are super new to us but they are a BEAUTIFUL boot at an amazing price point. However, I have heard very mixed reviews about their only US rep… and we’ve been steering clear of ordering any customs from them at this point unless specially requested/pushed for.
