Another Parent/Trainer Lawsuit.....

Well, their barn is gorgeous, if you don’t mind purple. And I wish I could see the genyoowine Swarovski crystal stuff on the stalls.
Can somebody please post the link to the purple barn? I really want to see it!

Why is an AMATEUR rider on “staff?”
i wondered this as well, then chalked it up to the same reason they have a “young rider” listed as “staff.” my thought was maybe she was the trainer’s gf or something.

i feel bad for these folks, if what is alleged is true. you really do trust your trainer with a lot, and those lines between a professional relationship and a friendship become blurred so easily in this industry. it’s easy to see how even a very smart family could be taken advantage of multiple times. people don’t want to believe that the person they trust is taking advantage of them, because they don’t want to admit that they made a mistake in judgement. it’s easier to believe the lies you’re fed than to admit you’ve been swindled (allegedly).

I read the “our team” label to be broader than just staff, they label the old trainer as the professional and the others as amateurs/juniors, and then have a staff section. Seemed like they just wanted to include their kids on the page, and another rider.

Has anyone read the comments on the RMHP Facebook page post? I’m pretty surprised how many people are openly trashing a teenager and defending the trainer/agents, who despite those glowing posts do have at least some questionable history in their sales background. Yes, it sounds like the owners placed too much blind trust in the trainer, but that doesn’t absolve the trainer of his duties as their agent (ie, on the PPE issue, for example). I would think more people would let the case play out before leaping in to defend one side/attack the other, but I guess we all know “wait and see” is not the favored approach on the internet!

And how stupid is this guy that given how much money these people were spending plus having dozens of his own horses on their property and a house, he couldn’t find one moderarely sound old packer. Not even a smart con man.
This was my first thought. No matter how bad a rider (not saying this girl is a bad rider), there is a made packer out there that can carry them around the course if the buyer has the money. Why did this guy not spend their money on good horses? He is clearly dumber than he looks.

I am guessing RMHP has their fair share of house guests, just like we do here.

But the kid repeatedly has horses that she can’t ride. I don’t know if they’re truly dangerous or if the kid is doing something to make these horses stop, but it sure sounds like a case they’ll make in court.
I was wondering that…seemed like a bit of a pattern, that after a few months of the kid riding the horse, it started stopping…

Actually, I know many of the people who have posted on RMHP’s facebook page. MM has been in and around my area for a long time and done deals with a lot of people. I have done business with him myself. Most people know to do their homework with sales that come through Peggy or Debi, but MM himself is a very nice person who has made an issue right for me personally. He clearly has done that with a lot of other local trainers as well. He is a fantastic rider and trainer. I can’t say exactly what happened in this situation, but I’m sure there is more to the story than meets the eye.

I do not know MM, I do not know what happened in this particular case, and I don’t doubt that there are at least some people who had positive shopping experiences with him. But I also know more than one person who had experiences along the lines of what is alleged in the lawsuit. I would imagine time will tell which category his dealings with these people fall into. And in a lot of situations, the truth often lies somewhere in the middle, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
