Another research project foal

I think it can get up and down easily because it doesn’t weigh a lot.

This is a story from 2019. I don’t know if the foal grew up or not.

That’s sad. And the poor foal is laying on concrete. War is hell on all living things.

I can’t stop rubbernecking at this trainwreck of a “rescue”. They posted a video of the (now like 3 month old :grimacing: ) foal playing with his friend in a field full of horses. Poor thing has the spirit but it looks like a leg is going to go at any second.

I can’t look at it because it reminds me of the sometimes unintended cruelty of human beings toward other creatures.

The sole front leg will give way at some point. Structurally, it’s doomed to fail. Of course, when that occurs the poor colt will undoubtedly suffer intractable pain and endure that until the vet can come to euthanize.

But hey, in the meantime he got to eat and wander around and the “rescue” got social media clicks and donations. So he served his purpose, right?

I see the video. I have to admit, that foal running around without a care in the world is adorable. I can see why the responses to people wondering about the foal’s future are so hostile even though I know his future.

Look at Rocky’s leg, and his hind feet in the background. Nope, no problems here! He’s totally fine! Totally not milking this for money!

That is appalling.

Oh God that front leg :sob:

She actually addressed this the other day :grimacing:

All the mental backflipping there is just incredible, from both the vet and the rescue.

this x 1 million. I hate the SM trend of exploiting animals that are ill, have conditions or are intentionally bred , like Munchkin Cats…just to get clicks

It’s disgusting and indefensible.

And he’s “running”?!?! WTF?? :flushed: How is this possible? Does he hop?

I can’t even with this.

I see. So she’s implying that copious amounts of hoof trimming and some type of “cuff” or brace will forestall the inevitable failure of that joint. And we should all just consider this another garden variety example of a dropped fetlock on a foal. Sure.

Some humans will craft an excuse to justify anything.

Just a money grab.

I appreciate that they are trying to give him as long as possible but any person will realize the fetlock is going to eventually collapse from the front end weight as the foal grows.

Just a mess.

They have a video of him “running” with his foal buddy. It looked pretty awful to me - he doesn’t look comfortable at all - but all the comments were about how inspiring it was.

It’s just so silly to me. Animals don’t have a concept of life lived/death as humans do… there was no harm in putting him down Day 1 before he suffered. If he’s ever in pain, then that’s all he will know in that moment, he won’t be “happy” he had time without pain. Just ridiculous

Ugh it’s just awful. This foal is barely 3 months old and is already facing pastern joint collapse. I don’t find it inspiring at all, only terribly sad.

I just have no words. When he breaks down finally, it’s going to be catastrophic.

I can’t imagine any shoes or braces that will make him sound, or extend his life with any quality.

This is no different than the “freak shows” in the bad old days. Come see the elephant man on display.
