Another research project foal

There is truly no winning with those people, and no shred of logic. I saw so many people suggesting that they should have “provided the care that he needed” about that horse, as though capturing and extensively handling an older, sick, already stressed stallion would somehow be less cruel than a quick and humane euthanasia…but these are the same people who would apparently rather see horses starve to death than be rounded up…and who insist that horses suffer from lifelong PTSD from being taken from their “families”…

That horse was emaciated and hardly able to move but people insisted he was just “coming out of winter hard” It was well enough out of winter to know that wasn’t true

Oh good grief.

The MD herd is believed to carry EIA? If that is a possibility why on earth has no one thought it good practice to test them?

I’d suggest a google, because I have no special knowledge of it. Basically they are quarantined by their situation and they don’t get any vet work so the state doesn’t think it’s worth it, even though the caretakers of the VA herd don’t agree and would prefer they did given the proximity to their herd.

All the talk of a prosthesis (which hasn’t happened)…there is nothing to attach it to…even I can see that.

I believe they are having a prosthesis made for his one front leg because his pastern is starting to collapse. They had a sketch of a design but Seven had a bunch of different braces so I was confused as to why they couldn’t use one readily available.

What an awful sight.

I don’t even understand what is going on here. Even with a dropped pastern and being a baby he shouldn’t be that butt high.

I bet the shoulder, which is primarily (or fully?) ligaments, is giving way. Think of how a panther’s shoulders slink up and over their spine.

Edit: Except, a horse’s are not supposed to be that mobile. Under severe strain, though…

I think you’re right. If you look at his shoulder and how his neck/chest is set into it it looks really dropped down. Like his shoulder can’t hold the weight anymore and everything is sinking down. Even if it’s all that poor baby has know as “normal” his shoulder has to be painful. This is just cruelty.

Are we sure that the photo is
Real and not AI?
I follow their FB and have never seen anything like this.

Idk where that screen shot is from but that is definitely him. They try to post only flattering photos that don’t show how messed up his body is, but you can see how collapsed his shoulder is here.

Also RRRR just finished trying to sue another rescue for custody of horses RRRR placed in an abusive home.

Nothing about that photo suggests AI or even photoshop. Look at the one foreleg. The angle of the pastern and hoof clearly show that leg is holding the full weight, and not just for a moment.

How much pain will the vet require before advising euthanasia?

The vet may have advised euthanasia, maybe multiple times. That doesn’t mean they will follow his/her advice. The vet can’t force them to euthanize.
