I had xrays to confirm the angles were correct with my previous farrier, who retired. I passed those on to the new farrier and basically said “he’s good so don’t change anything” Newer farrier hasn’t made any large changes - this is just for my peace of mind and to make sure there haven’t been any little changes accumulating over time.
You might be speaking more generally to everyone though. I’ve also had the “the farrier doesn’t have xray eyes and neither does the vet, so I’m not sure how you can rule out foot problems by just looking at them” conversation.
