Yep
What do you mean you put a lace through the zipper? I have XL calves and they’re curvy too. Mine fall down. So annoying.
To make the OP’s decision more complex…
I just got a pair of Ego 7’s via Fundis Equestrian. Shipping was $10 and they arrived in 3-4 days, or two working days. Their size chart was accurate. I don’t know how easy they would have been to return, but I figured I could re-sell them for at least what I paid.
They broke in pretty easily. I tied loops of baling twine on the zipper pulls for more oomph, but didn’t need them after a week or so. They rubbed one ankle so I used a gel sleeve (like the Equifit one, but cheaper) for a couple of rides.
They do have synthetic material on the inside of the calves for increased durability and that was fairly slick for a few rides. I cheated and used the sticky spray that comes in an orange can.
I’m a 9.5 regular calf/height in Ariats and these are size 41 M/0, and a bit taller and skinnier than the Ariats.
I put a lace through the zipper and made a loop. The loop goes through the top snap strap on the boot. Then the zip will slip a little but not much at all.
WOW! Of course the boots I like are 1.2k…
Thank you for the link! Drool.
I’ll second the Ego7’s. I found some online for $300 including shipping from Edgemere. I know LA Saddlery has them on sale for $250, but in limited sizes. The UK/European shops have them for much less than all American stores (but not less than LA Saddlery). They weren’t hard to break in (slower than Parlantis, faster than Ariats) and I love the elastic. They really do fit like custom boots. I used my Parlanti sizing to determine my size in Ego7. I am a 38MH+ in Parlanti and a 38M+1 in Ego 7.
HOWEVER, be careful with sticky spray on the synthetic parts, I used some and it rubbed off the outer layer of coating on the inside of the boots. I had to stop wearing them because they were actually peeling - I was afraid I would wear through the boot without the outer layer.
After I destroyed my first pair of Ego7’s (took two years of consistent riding) I purchased a pair of Alberto Fasciani boots on clearance. I really liked them in the beginning, but they had absolutely NO give and they ended up ripping at the seam on the side of my calf. I thought about getting them repaired, but because there’s no elastic in the boot I think they will just rip again. So I got another pair of Ego7s!
One more for Team DeNiro.
I leveled up from my tried and true make/model (Tredstep Donatello) when they very stupidly removed the elastic panel in the latest model and no longer fit my calves.
I went for the DeNiro Tricolore boots and have been nothing but thrilled with them. I got an older model with the pebbled leather on clearance for schooling and they are the most comfortable boots I’ve ever owned and have held up very well, and a smooth pair for showing.
The only thing that I found strange with the new Tricolore models (the one I bought for shows) is they are a little larger in the foot than other boots I’ve worn. I’m a sample size 39 for shoes/boots, and the 39s in the new Tricolore boots are a touch large, fit more like a 40. In the older model they are spot on. Has anyone else noticed this with the newer Tricolores?
I have Deniros and Tuccis and I love them both.
I have Tucci Marilyns and they have been my go to show boots for years. They are absolutely gorgeous and have held up really well.
My Deniros are the Leonardo boots with the ride and fly sole. They have been my go to boots at home and (lately) shows for the last 2 years. They have a tennis-shoe-ish sole and they are so so comfortable, but still look really nice. Nice enough that I have been showing in them even though they’re dark brown and not quite as fancy looking as my Tuccis (which are black and with the patent detail).
My feedback on the two is that they’re relatively equal in quality. My only complaint about the Tuccis is that I cannot figure out the sizing. I have a 36.5cm calf, which equals a 38F on the size chart, but my boots are marked 38FW which corresponds to the next size up. When I bought them (at an onsite tack shop at a show) they were deadly tight. So tight that the tack shop had to stretch them for me and it still took forever for them to zip relatively easily. So now I want to order a new pair, but I’m completely torn on what size to order. So either they come crazily tight compared to the size chart or I got a mismarked pair and they are usually pretty true to size. Wish I knew which!
I do have lots of other pairs of boots as well, including most of the different Ariat models. But my Tuccis and Deniros are my favorites by far.
They can stretch zipper boots?
What sticky spray did you use that made the synthetic part peel? My stuff in the orange can didn’t, but I only used it once. I would prefer a bit more grip, but don’t want to destroy the boots.
TIA
I think it was the Effax in the yellow container that looks like deodorant!
