Thoughts? Thanks
I love the bloodlines of Halo for sport. Three Troikas was a French Champion filly. Lyphard was a nice horse, very ND in type, but I like him. The dam line incorporates both Grey Sovereign and Precipitation if you look another generation back not on the pedigree shown. Both are major players as approved Thoroughbred stallions by European wb registries. Not a bad pedigree. But that is only one component – what does the individual bring to the table in conformation, movement, type and temperment?

what I noticed the most is the number of lines to Princely Gift. His sire was Nasrullah and his damsire was Blue Peter. Princely Gift is an excellent line that has proved itself in sport. for one instance, he’s the second damsire of Ringwood Magister. He’s on top of Mill Law, a very good eventing sire in GB. He’s the damsire of Belfalas, a KWPN TB stallion. He’s in the tail male line of Sir Shostakovich. He’s got FEI level show jumping and dressage descendants through several different descendants in several different European WB registries.
Blue Peter is one of the star lines–Ladykiller’s grandsire and Blue Murmur’s grandsire, among others.
Goofed is pretty darned good. Can’t do better than Court Martial, and Barra is a Ksar grandson. Ksar (Dollar line) is in the lines of many of the USET showjumpers from the TB Glory days. He’s pure gold. She’s not only Lyphard’s dam but the dam of Pharly. Pharly was a very superior chasing sire and has several FEI level performers to his credit.
Chanteur was the son of Chateau Boscault, who was one of the best sires of Irish sport horses, and both are still very desired lines. Chanteur just happens to have been the sire of Ben Hawke, sire of Ben Faerie. Chanteur’s son, African Drum, was sent to Holland and used in KWPN breeding. Most of the African Drums ended up in FEI showjumping. Chanteur’s son, Pinza, is the sire of Bleep, who was the damsire of the German dressage stallion, Bolero. Pinza’s son Pinturischio has descendants in many different WB registries and in all disciplines.
Gabador is supposed to have been a full brother of Ardan and Pardal. Pharis x Adargatis. Adargatis is a 3/4 sibling of La Troienne. Ardan is the sire line for Idle Dice, and Pardal is the sireline for Stan The Man. They both have sport horse descendants from many different offspring, and they are in many different WB registries.
Sovereign Path was a son of Grey Sovereign; both sires have many descendants who have produced FEI level performers. Probably the most famous son of Sovereign Path was Wolver Hollow. Sovereign Edition was sent to New Zealand and was a champion TB sire there. Grey Sovereign’s dam Kong was also the dam of the Nearco son, Nimbus, who is a very, very good sport horse line. He’s found in Shutterfly’s dam line, among other very good sport horses. And he happens to be the tail male grandsire of Black Sky, the Dressage Bolero’s sire.
Major Portion is also Court Martial, and he’s the damsire of Praefectus, a TB used in Hannoverian breeding. Majority Blue himself is the sire of Blue Laser, a TB successfully used in ISH breeding. Blue Laser had no stallion sons, but some FEI level eventing and show jumping mares and geldings; and his daughters bred on. One of them is the link to Santa Claus (her dam) in Ballynoe Castle RM. David O’Connor rode a Blue Laser son–Gorta Glen. Peter Charles rode the Blue Laser son, Impulse, at the 1994 WEGs. Piggy French rode a Blue Laser eventing gelding (What A Performance) from 2002 to 2009 consistently at 3* (almost always in the top ten) but they only tried and one 4* and didn’t finish. Majority Blue was the damsire of the stallion, Dock Leaf, also used in eventing breeding in Ireland.
Duplicity is tail female to one of the truly great broodmares for sport horses. Her second dam was Double Life, the dam of Precipitation and Persian Gulf. Double Life was a daughter of Bachelor’s Double, and his lines were ubiquitious in World Class eventers in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Doubleton’s sire was Bahram, and it’s been said that all Bahrams can jump.
Lines that are purely New Zealand or Australia are not ones that are easy to research. unless they’ve got descendants who have done or are doing FEI level sport. One would hope that their NF would have better results searching and IDs than the USEF.
Thanks!
Wow, thank you both so much! Viney, as usual you are an incredible wealth of knowledge!
This mare is very special and IMHO a wonderful example of a sport TB. She has three nice gates and an elegant look to her. The Halo in her pedigree worried me a bit as I know they can be ornery. She can be a handful on the ground at times (herd bound) but is lovely undersaddle and very workman-like.
She showed in the jumpers to 1.40m in NZ as well as eventing up to a CIC*. She was imported to the US as a hunter ( ) and then went to a young rider and competed in eventing again.
I acquired her with a minor suspensory injury and she is now sound. I am planning on doing some eventing and jumpers on her. I will likely breed her in 2012 or 2013.

Does anyone else have anything to add?
LOL What’s to add - Viney says it all!!
