Another top jumper rider TBI. So sad

It’s not a cave dwelling thing. I emailed them. Others have emailed them. I tried to talk to them.

THEY.DO.NOT.CARE.

The Olympic team for SJ wears their helmets. They’re the most popular in H/J.

They want to compete with the Joneses for popularity, not with the Rhys Powell’s of the world who care about safety. (He’s the owner and creator of the ARRO helmets, the ACTUAL safest helmet)

They (Sh1tShield) do not care if a person was killed or maimed in their helmets. They were paid already and each year more people buy them that care more about popularity than safety. So they will always win.

Slow down. I was referring to myself as the cave-dweller–I thought there might have been some significant public thing or other, and hadn’t heard bugger all on the subject, so was inquiring as to where I might go to read and get up to speed, as this was presented as common knowledge.

See, that’s all I know about them–that they’re popular.

So there have been instances of injury and death because the product is defective?
I’m still unclear on how this company differs from others.
Is there a problem that has been noted by users, who pointed it out and got blown off by the company?

A lot of horses react to sudden sounds, right? I exercise a couple of old campaigners and unexpected sounds can still get a reaction out of horses who have been there, done that for a lifetimes.

I was asking if the writer knew the actual cause of the fractures. You are taking my sentence and making it stand alone. It can’t, it has to be read in context. My question is particular. I agree that there isn’t a whole lot of science about airvests, but I don’t see any science proving downsides and even Kevin Babington is coming out supporting their use. Science is a moving field and we’ll see as time goes on. I wear mine because I believe that it has saved my neck. Wear one or don’t, at this point it’s your choice, but Courtney King Dye convinced me a helmet was a mandatory safety item and that was probably before you were born. Hahahaha.

I’m not sure what my age has to do with anything but I do remember Courtney’s fall and I’d already been wearing a helmet for years at that point. And even if I didn’t remember that incident, unlike air vests helmets have a ton of research and standardized certifications so no one has to make their decisions based on celebrity cases.

You asked if the fractures were caused by the air vest or the fall, but it doesn’t really matter (and there’s no way to know anyway). You can’t draw useful conclusions from individual anecdotes, and you can’t prove or disprove that the air vest changed the outcome. There ARE studies that suggest they might make falls worse, those are pretty easy to find if you’re interested, and there isn’t strong evidence that they really help either. From where I’m standing the evidence is pretty mixed. If you believe yours helps that’s great, I have no problem with people who choose to wear one and may get one for myself at some point, but I at least acknowledge the decision to buy one would be emotional rather than scientific.

I, too, am waiting for more research. I do wear a traditional vest (or one of the back/body protectors) every ride. The air vests tempt me, but I’ve read the studies that are out there and so far am not convinced they are worth the investment.

I was making a joke about my age. Good grief.
