I am looking at a used Antarès and everything is just right about the saddle but I am not sure what is stamped on the billet guard. It has M20 and RAR +5. I rode in the same saddle with the exception of the RAR +5 today and I loved the saddle and it fit my horse very well. Would be helpful to know what this means to make sure it will not affect the fit for my horse. Any help is appreciated!
I believe RAR +x is built up in the back of the saddle, under the cantle. I believe that they go by mm so +5 would be an extra 5mm.
Thank u for the info! I am hoping 5mm does not make a big difference.
Mine has the RAR +5 and one some I notice a difference and on some I don’t. Hopefully it works out for you!
It is hard to find the perfect used saddle. The other 1 was considering has a 3AB flap vs the 3A that I know is a fit for me. I am not sure how much difference there is between the 2 flap sizes. So I am debating between getting the 3AB on trial or the saddle I know fits with the adde +5mm. This saddle shopping business has gotten very complicated since I last bought 12yrs ago!
My saddle has a 2N flap and I’ve also ridden in a 2NB flap and don’t notice a big difference. The only thing that is changing is the most forward part of the flap is shifted to lower down, making it a “low forward” flap. From my experience, the reps usually order a B for the people that are between flap lengths, so if a 3 is almost long for you it might not work, but if you could get away with a 4, it might have a better chance of working. For reference, I think the ideal flap for me is a 1NB, but I’ve never ridden one, so I can be sure.
I had an Antares with a 3NB flap and AR+10. The AR+10 is a bit of a lift back in the cantle. The NB is a regular flap that’s a bit forward at the bottom.
