Anthrax in New York!

Not being up on “Anthrax” is this something that new cases are just being focused on due to the recent tragedy and there are usually a few cases a month in the US, or are the recent outbreaks unprecedented? Just wondering if it is a not so common disease that is being focused on now and is maybe spreading more panic than necessary?

FROM ALL MEDICAL JOURNALS AND TEXTS:

Cutaneous anthrax: Most common and least deadly,
can be contracted through contact with animals, most common vector: goats and cows. Low mortaltiy rate. Easily treatable.

Anthrax of the digestive tract: Contracted through eating contaminated meat, most commonly goat meat. Mortality rate: 20 to 30%.

Why are goats and cattle the most common vector? We raised Dairy Goats for 5 years and anthrax was never a concern, it’s not even mentioned in our Dairy Goat Books in the “heads up” section. We never butchered, only milked. Also, is this limited to dairy cattle or are beef cattle also a common vector?

…is exactly what our militant friends had in mind.

I must commend NBC on keeping this incident quite until confirmed.

It seems to me since Anthrax is not contagious, there is no reason to creat a media frenzy over every envelope that arrives on someone’s desk with “suspicious” contents.

Is this not exactly what terrorists want? The government, the public running amok? Driving the stock market down, slowing the economy even more?

So far, in, what I can only guess, is still a ratings war, the media continues to fuel the fire. They could be such an asset to our “war on terrorism” if they would nix the sensationalism and stick to the boring facts.

Oh for the days of Walter Cronkite.

The Most Dangerous Place

But let’s look on the bright side (if that’s possible in this situation) -

If anthrax-by-mail is the next wave of Al Queda’s terrorism campaign, it’s turning out to be very ineffective. One scary part of the hijackings was how brilliantly planned and effective they were. We keep hearing that there will be further acts of terrorism, and if the anthrax scare is it, it’s kind of (dare I say it?) a relief.

I’m sorry one person died, but at least it wasn’t another 5000+.

(I hope my point is clear. It just seems that we’ve figured this one out quickly enough. I don’t think there will be more deaths.)

I just saw that too scrolling at the bottom on CNN. Anyone know more?

Tough call - we certainly have enough of the home grown nuts who take full advantage of the situation of our country, however, the fact that the first cases were in Florida makes me wonder.
