Any eventing barns in SF Bay Area with lesson horses?

Hello!

New to the forum here. After a recent cross-country transplant from Texas to the SF Bay Area, I’m looking to get back into eventing. As such, I’m on the hunt for an eventing barn. The catch is that I don’t have a horse at the moment, and I’m not really at the point where I’m ready to buy/lease yet, so I’d love to locate a place that has lesson horses available. Honestly, I just really want to ride again.

And if you’re still reading this and have any recommendations you can provide, I give you a hearty, virtual high-five.

Thanks!

What part of the SF Bay Area are you in?

I’m in the North Bay Area.

There are a lot of barns in the area, but ones with lesson horses are hard to find. I’ll ask around. Any preference to which county?

Solano, preferably. But I’m willing to travel, if I need to. Thanks for your help!

Awesome - thanks, prudence!

Oof, Cali from Texas-- quite a change! The California horse world can get much more expensive than other areas, so brace yourself

I recently graduated from UC Davis and rode at a couple of places in Yolo County. I live in Sonoma County now (wine country prices are OUCH, but I digress) and I adore my current place. There are some lesson horses at the first two I list below.

Alana Curtis @ SunFire Eventing Center, Woodland CA – bought my horse from her and rode with her while I was in college. She’s lovely. $60 private lesson on a school horse. http://sunfireequestrian.com/
Toora Nolan @ Santa Rosa Equestrian Center, Santa Rosa CA – currently ride/board here and the facility is stunning, Toora is awesome and there are other trainers on site. Lots of horses for lessons/lease as the facility houses over 100. Toora runs $55 I think for private lessons on a school horse. http://srequestrian.com/toora-nolan.htm
Holly Fox @ Fox Farms, Davis CA – I have never ridden personally with her but I have a friend or two who like her. Unfortunately I cannot say re:lesson horses and prices, but she’s accessible through email. http://www.foxfarms.com/

I don’t know where exactly you are but there are 3 (potentially…) driving distance from Solano. Hope this helps, and best of luck finding something

CanterandCandor - first off, great username! Second, you rock! Thank you for the information - I’m going to check all these places out.

And you’re right, it’s taken some adjusting trying to get used to the Cali sticker shock. But the views don’t suck…

I’m in Benicia, but I’m definitely willing to drive for the right barn. That’s the one thing I’m used to coming from Texas, haha!

acorn, sent you a PM

I have schoolies–all confirmed eventers. Some are available for full or part lease.
