Anybody bred to Freedom Z

I was playing around…dreaming of the future in case I do breed my mare again next year and came across this stallion:

Any thoughts or experiences? Anybody bred to him and what was the result?

I think he is a great old style stallion, but I honestly like Coming Star a lot more!

I bred a mare to him in 2005 and got a really lovely filly out of a nice T’bred mare. She is very correct, a good mover, lots of scope and a great temperament. The service from Acorn Hill is great.

I have always wanted to breed to him for years. And I will be breeding a Hanoverian mare to him tomorrow! Great old bloodlines with him. And wonderful people to work with so far. Looking forward to it.

I have two by him, one out of a Bundspecht/tbx mare, who is a powerhouse mover, super uphill, jumper balanced, strong hind end, huge open shoulder- really nice mare. Short, but so was mum.

I also have an 8 yr old out of a Clyde/tbx mare, who is a very good, scopey jumper ( the other mare is just 3 so hasnt been tested yet), but who took on quite a bit of the clyde build, and neck, so basically looks like Freedom Z with a short neck and hairy legs.
They are both brave mares. Both are dark bay with some white legs and stripes on the face, one bigger, one thinner.

For those with foals, what did you think of temperment/trainability?

Also, as far as movement, hunter or jumper? Or even something you would take to a dressage show? It is hard to tell on the video I saw–grainy.

He certainly can jump though and is a very nicely bred boy!! It is sad that so many of the really nice guys are getting up there in age! I’ve always liked him but am a little worried about the head. However, looking at the foal pics they look pretty cute!

I have seen some of his offspring at the better shows. They have had nice heads and very nice athletic types.

Oh, we are breeding to him for a “hunter” not a dressage horse.

Bumpity bump bump

Bumping up an old thread to see if anyone wants to offer any updates on their horses. I saw reference to Freedom Z in another thread and my interest has been piqued. He would definitely be a senior citizen by now.

He is similarly bred to a gelding I have that I adore; they even look a lot alike.

Updates, anyone? Or new contributions to this thread?

I have a Freedom Z gelding. He looks like his sire, has a FABULOUS jump, and is a nice mover. He is HUGE - right at 18hh (first foal out of 17hh mare) with loads of bone, but pleasing proportions - he doesn’t look so big until you’re close to him.

A vet I know describes him as having an ‘excess of personality’! He’s delightful - a real people pony that will do practically anything I ask, but he’s a bit mischevious (opens stall doors, will put anything in his mouth, wants lots of attention). This might come from his dam as his Redwine brother is pretty much the same.

He’s sensible and not easily impressed (no spook). He has always had definite opinions, but been easy to work with. I’ll say it again, he’ll do just about anything I ask, and even as big as he is, he’s easyeasyeasy to work with on the ground.

Freedom Z

I have the good fortune of having at Otteridge Farm an outstanding Freedom Z three year old (photos attached). He is here for my daughter to start under saddle for his owner, Robin Stewart. He was VHSA Champion Yearling in 2011.

Fenway Park (“Bruno”) is an Amateur’s dream come true. We are a two woman operation and he is as gentle as a lamb. Currently walks, trots and canters in the ring and out in a big paddock. He is an amazing mover and will jump the moon. I’d highly recommend breeding to Freedom Z!!!

ML, he’s good! He still seems like a baby to me - it’s hard to believe he’s 6 already! His dam’s cooking a Rascalino baby for me now, though I have no idea what I’ll do with it…

I’d breed to Freedom Z again if was a breeder, but I just have the one mare and I think the guy I have is too big for most people.

we have a freedom z 5 yr old mare bred by Peter Barry out of a British TB eventing mare - she is unbelievably easy to train and a fantastic temperament - I would breed to him in an instant.

The responses are so interesting to me since one frequently hears that horses with Furioso II blood close up in the pedigree are hot, yet my impression is the total opposite. I know bottom line highly influential re: that but still.

I am really intrigued by this stallion; I have sworn no breeding for a few years and my only mare is out on lease but I feel myself wavering. Especially given the age of this stallion.
