Anyone buy? sell? adopt? from Brit Le'Brand Farm Warsaw Ohio?

[QUOTE=Cherry;3518002]
Has anyone with a dog in this fight suggested to the sheriff in Coshocton County that y’all go to the States Attorney General of Ohio and file complaints against this woman??? I mean if the fraud is this rampant–it sounds like many people have been sucked into this mess…

Aside from that–don’t people research where their animals are going and doesn’t anyone do a vet check before taking these horses off this woman’s property??? This is nuts!!![/QUOTE]
Maybe you didn’t read ALL the postings thoroughly…

Well, if I missed something about vet checks please point it out. Honestly, I would never just rely on a visual check either before placing a horse somewhere.

All caly40 had to do was Google, which she did after the fact. News travels fast in the horse world and bad news travels the fastest!!! If there’s bad news out there you have to find out by asking more than one source!!! Even if caly would have posted on this board–does anyone know so and so–she probably would have gotten an earful before she put the horse there…

You just can’t be too careful when placing a horse!!! You also can’t be desperate because that’s when you start making errors in judgment. I wish I had a nickel for every time someone called me looking for a home for their horse that needed a new home immediately! In nearly every single case these people knew–they knew–this horse or horses needed to be placed with someone else but they waited until the very last minute to ask around. Invariably they end up selling the horse(s) to a dealer and the animals generally end up at New Holland… It just makes me crazy when I hear these stories!!!

Googled

Cherry,
I was told B was googled last Nov/Dec and nothing came up about her. She is only 25 yrs. old. I think maybe this is a fairly new buiness adventure. I am from OH and of all the horse people I have talked to no one has heard of her except my friend that has the trouble with her. So hopefully NOW word will travel fast.

The purpose served by this thread

Cherry, Swampskeeter is correct. I googled her prior to making my purchase in Nov. Nothing came up except for a breeding farm in upstate NY who leases one of her mares. When it became evident she was dishonest, I started this thread. My experience with her exceeds misrepresenting the horse as I outlined in my earlier posts. Hopefully, this thread will serve its purpose as a “shout out” to others considering getting involved with her.

when i sent my horses to her it was november of 06 and when i googled her there was nothing, i also didnt wait till the last min to find them a home, i had several people contact me about them, i thought i was giving them to a wonderful home, i wouldnt have given my horses away to her if i had known what her intentions were.

FYI

I have been in the business before of selling animals. I told the people when they came to buy to take the animal to their vet, and if for some reason there was a problem, bring it back for a full refund. I would hold their payment until after I heard back from them that everything was “OK”. This was after my vet had already done a thorough exam. THAT’S WHAT GOOD, HONEST PEOPLE DO. I didn’t have a “written” contract either, but I stood by my word. I NEVER had ONE disgruntled person…imagine that!! Dogontired and mcperformancehorses both stated they had their vet check the horses and they were not what miss britney claimed, therefore she should have taken the animals back without question. Period. She misrepresents the horses and her farm, she does not answer emails/phone calls once she gets wind that someone is unhappy, etc. Everyone who has a dog in this fight can prove what they say. I imagine the Attorney General and the IRS will be made very aware of what’s going on with this “business” if they haven’t already. I would hope that if she stays in this business she would start to go out of her way to make people happy and place horses that can truly stay with a “forever” family. Good business people go out of their way to do the right thing, written contract or not. I really don’t think she is capable (she can prove me wrong anytime), and unless you meet her you really have no idea…she’s a piece of work.

Honest People

Well said Trail Queen. I to have sold a few, and have always been honest. Also with no written contracts. And to my knowlegde I have not had one disgruntled person either. And a couple of my sales were over the internet.

What she is doing makes bad, let’s say “PR” for the horse business.

so, i havent heard anything of her yet…havent gotten my pony back yet either…been very busy and not on puter much sorry

Guys, I understand that these s****y things can happen and I sympathize with your situations, but I gotta’ say it doesn’t really seem like you’re doing your due diligence before taking in one of B’s horses. No money really should be in her hands until you are absolutely sure the horse is what she led you to believe it was. I don’t think I missed any details on this thread, so please correct me if I’m wrong. But if the horse doesn’t look the way it was described in an ad once you get there, you shouldn’t bring it home then ask questions later. A vet check should always be done first. Except for some of the earlier adoption people, Googling should’ve have provided some background on this operation. Any questionable behavior on her part while you’re at her farm looking at the horse should give you a red flag and you should never let someone rush you into a purchase (that’s a trick in all sales operations, car dealers, realtors, etc.).

And I have to ask, sorry, but why on earth would you all return these horses to her. Yes, I understand they turned out not to be what she represented, but you’ve put the horse back [[with] her. For example, Dogontired, how could you return Gus and “hope” all is well with him? [edit]

I bet people do more research when buying a car, even a used car, than they do when adopting/buying a horse.

[edit] in some of these cases, you guys made it kinda easy for her…and you returned the poor horse back to her care, [edit]

Okay, now you can fire your shots at me

Christine

I wish we had a Better Business Bureau for horse rescue/adoption/trader operations. Or do we?

Christine

I guess not all of us get to be as smart and dispassionate as you, Christine.

Re: BBB for horse people and attempting to stay ahead of Britney/Brit Le Brand/BLB Equine Rescue and Julie M, the squirrel that we have all been dealing with over all of these posts continues to change her name and is now posting horses “for sale” under her mother’s name (Julie) in a city she does not live in (Wooster, OH). Last time I checked, the only way the BBB works is if the person is conducting business continuously in the open under their own name. Britney conducts her [edit] business with smoke and mirrors and at the grand age of 24, can’t even use her given name and conduct business in the open. I don’t know how you can see that type or person coming, do you?

Re: returning Gus, reality struck. I can not afford to spend $250 per month plus board plus vet and farrier bills on a third horse. That is not why I answered B’s ad initially, which is detailed in one of my earlier posts. I in good faith attempted to negotiate a sale, only to have the alleged seller announce (after she cashed the check) that she would not sign a bill of sale with terms that she’d negotiated and agreed to, and that said she warranted she had good title to convey on the horse. I found him another home with a wonderful family who knew the extent of his injuries (thanks to my vet), but these folks were unacceptable to B. I suggested donating him to New Vocations or Last Chance Corral or any other legitimate organization that can place pasture pets, none of which were acceptable to B.

What would you have me do instead of return Gus to this nut and start participating in this chain of posts?

Christine

My friend did not return her horse. She really likes the mare. But she has still not received Reg. Papers.

Brit Le’ brand Dishonesty NOT limited to misrepresentation of the horse

I guess as this thread gets longer some details are lost. Britney Sturtz/Brit Le’ brand farm’s deceit exceeds the misrepresetation of her horses. Additionally, she lied to us–about the trailering fee (and attempted to steal $200. from us)…lied about every financial transaction we had with her…attempted to extort $1500. from us for questionable registration papers. The dishonesty runs deep…

This may be a stupid question, but if she’s run this scam in different states can’t the federal authorities be brought in? Has she not been jailed because local authorities can’t catch her or because there’s not enough evidence? If the latter, could you all run a sting operation on her, with everything being documented?

-Christine

i’m pretty sure that all of it comes down to her word agenst ours, i know in my case thats what is going on…i can tell her word dont mean crap though.

for those of you who arent famillier with my story here it is again…
well almost 2 years ago i had 3 horses…2 horses and a pony actually…i had had these horses all my childhood…i was 23 @ the time…so these horses were not just horses to me, they were my best friends, i dont recall a memory of mine that dont include them in it. i didnt have friends or boyfriends, i had my horses and all i did was go ridding ALL the time, well the mares started to have seaziors…we had the vet out dozens of times and they were on meds and getting tested and all kinds of stuff. my ex husband (husband at the time) got into trouble while i was on vacation seeing my brother graduate from the marines…long story short that asshole caused me to lose my house and i had no ware for my girls to go…my vet finally cleared them for travel, so i listed an add for them looking for a retirement home…thats when brittney answered my add…she said she had a ridding program for autistic children and would provide them with a forever home…well i delivered them to her and we made a verbal agreement that she would keep in touch with me and keep me updated about them, that she would never sell them and i could come see them whenever i wanted and she would never seperate them. i reluctently left my girls and pony there and made my 4 hr. drive home crying my eyes out. i mean this wasnt an easy thing for me to do. we’re talking about horses i had for 23 years…the one mare my parents got 6 mo. b4 i was born…lifetime friends…well for the first week she talked to us like 3 times then all the sudden the calls stoped, she wouldnt return my calls or my moms calls…i mean we tried for about 1 1/2 years and got nothing, i moved around and lost her address and left messages saying i needed directions and still nothing…[edit]…so naturally i started investigating and found out the police are trying to build a case agenst her and i’m left high and dry not knowing where my girls and pony are…she said my girls passed away and my pony is still there, [edit]…she told me she has my pony but i cant go see him but she will mail pics, which is what she is known for doing, so thats my story and where i’m at rite now. [edit] [trying] to find out where my childhood friends are at

Sorry for your heartache

Amanda,
I’m sorry for your heartache. You did what you felt was the very best for your horses based on the knowledge you had–you believed Britney. Most all of us believed the best–she comes across so sweet…that’s I’m certain how we all ended up here. Hopefully, those in authority will intervene on behalf of [us]. I hope the former owner of the horse I now have can be found…I’d love to know the truth about him.

As these situations involve a purported rescue operation, we’ve been inclined to give a bit more leeway regarding feedback on experiences with them. The forums, however, are not intended to serve as an outlet for airing the details of specific problems with named individuals and/or making accusations against them.

You can provide a link to another site (ripoffreport.com, for example, where specifics can be detailed).

We’re going to leave this thread open for the time being with the caveat that the specific details of private dealings should not be hashed out here. If someone has had a negative experience, they can say so, give a general idea of the problem (horse was misrepresented, had trouble following up with her, terms of our agreement were changed, etc.) and address further queries regarding those experiences by private message, email, etc.

If, at some point, official charges are made, they can be addressed here, but until that point, no such claims can be made.

Positive feedback is, of course, welcome.

We will close the thread if it does not adhere to these parameters.

Thanks and best wishes to those involved,

??? GET THE TRUTH ???

:)FIRST OFF WANT TO STATE HERE VERY CLEARLY, THIS RESCUE “BRIT LE’ BRAND FARMS” IS WONDERFUL. THE QUALITY OF CARE, LOVE AND TIME THAT ALL THE EQUINES AT BRIT LE’ BRAND FARMS RECIEVED IS NEVER ENDING. I’M NEW TO THIS SLANDEROUS POSTING BY PEOPLE (4-5) THAT HAD THESE SO CALLED ISSUES WITH BRIT LE’ BRAND FARMS… EVEN TWO THAT “LOVE” THE HORSES THAT WERE ADOPTED FROM BRIT LE’ BRAND FARMS BUT DON’T LIKE THE REQUIRED ADOPTION CONTRACTS, SO THEY SLANDER, POST LIES AND MAKE UNTRUE STATEMENTS ON THIS THREAD. MY UNDERSTAND ABOUT THESE POST WERE TO DISCUSS HORSE RELATED ITEMS, NOT SLANDER… ??? GUESS I’M NOT LIKE YOU PEOPLE.

I KNOW THIS RESCUE VERY WELL. I HAVE ADOPTED FOUR HORSES FROM THEM AND EVERY ( I MEAN EVERY ONE OF THEM) IS EXACTLY WHAT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME. THESE HORSES ARE MY BABIES. I EVEN LEASED A HORSE TO SHOW FROM THEM AND BRITNEY STURTZ WAS A DREAM TO LEASE FROM. ANYTIME I HAD A QUESTION SHE WAS THERE…

FOR MANDY…
IF YOUR HORSES AND PONY WERE IN AS BAD A SHAPE AS EXPLAINED IT’S WONDERFUL THE PONY SURVIVED. IF I WAS YOU, I WOULD BE JUST APPRECIATIVE THAT BRITNEY TOOK THE HORSES AND PONY IN AND MADE THE REST OF THERE DAYS WONDERFUL. I’M SURE THE PONY IS EXTREMELY HAPPY AND HEALTH. I WOULD JUST MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE AND QUIT SLANDERING THIS WONDERFUL GIRL.

HOW MANY OF YOU "PEOPLE’ HAD ACTUALLY MET HER AND SEEN HER FARM??? IT SOUNDS LIKE A BUNCH OF BANTERING OLD WOMEN WITH OUT A LIFE ON THIS THREAD. WOW…

FROM READING THIS THREAD TODAY, I’M SURE YOU ALL WILL BE ON HERE BASHING ME NEXT… I WILL STAND BY BRIT LE BRAND FARMS AND BRITNEY STURTZ 100%. I’M SURE THERE IS A TON OF PEOPLE THAT WILLL;)
