anyone else super excited for sj?!?

So all the 8 faulters get to advance now too.
Only 12 riders eliminated, 63 advance.

I’ve only just started watching and rails are falling with every rider. Cian O’Connor just went clear, though.

Sorta looked like Via scared herself a bit jumping so big- I too was worried about the doubles when I saw how she was jumping!

Guys, I think Beezie has to take the blame for that elim… pilot error… twice.
Yup. Have to agree.

Agreed. The horse looked spooky and a little all over the place from the beginning. Not focused enough to handle jumping into that combination so crooked and tight.

There were 40 clear jumping rounds. Not an overly difficult course.

Gawd. I’m still shaking my head. The horse didn’t want to jump from there. Acted like it couldn’t jump in and get out from there. And she rode right back to it. Big Sigh.

It was so beautiful otherwise. Volo brought game today.

Big hugs to Beezie. A reminder we’re all mortals.

I think she realized that and checked herself though after the triplebar combo, which she luckily got out of. I was like, whoa, she’s having a lot of fun out there! She seemed to reel it back in after that.

Oh poor Beezie. Looked to me like she jumped so big and sticky in both times that she couldn’t make the striding out? Doesn’t affect the team standings, right?
Maybe just me but it looked like Via did the same thing in the wheel in and out-- got sticky in the air and shifted left hard?? And it didn’t help that she wouldn’t listen to Beezie and come back for the line just before.
This. She got sticky in the air once, and I think Beezie deemed it safer for the both of them to duck out. I don’t think Beezie anticipated Via to do the same thing twice in the air, but as someone said, that’s where the pilot error comes in. The approach Beezie chose both times wouldn’t be considered bad on other days, but the way Via was jumping today and not listening, well then you need to outsmart the horse another way.

It looked to me as if Via Volo was just barely under control the whole round. No rhythm, and no flow. I also think she may have slipped coming into the double the first time.

No, not the standings, but it will affect the order of go, with the US being one of the first countries to go.
She of course is out of the individual competition now.

What a shocker with Beezie Madden. So sorry.

If I missed it, I’m sorry, but anyone have a link to photos of each jump on the course? My non-horsey, but Brit history loving friends would love to see those jumps.

Slightly off topic, but Lucinda Green ( still the commentator here in Oz :S ) has mentioned that Edwina Alexander Tops has been the #1 ranked rider for the past 2 years. Finding this very hard to believe and suspect not true. But wanted to ask people who probably would know, aka COTH.

From what I can find, she is ranked 8th on the Rolex list on FEI. Assuming that is the only list around…

P.
Nope, she is not. R-G Bengtsson has been #1 the last year, he and Eric Lamaze was #1 on and off until the death of Hickstead and after that he has been in the lead ever since. I think she was talking about Champions league or whatever it´s called that Jan Tops is running. BIG prizemoney and invitations only. Edwina won last year and is in the lead (or has won not sure) this year.

Is there/will there be a replay anywhere? The only US trip I got to see was Reed’s.

Ok, I just woke up and I’ve seen nothing. Live app saying. “Coverage will resume.” It also ever-so helpfully told me below the video area that McLain, Rich and Reed all went already, and their results (AWESOME, I’m thrilled!), but it says Beezie has yet to ride. Is that correct? Is there a rain delay or something or is it actually all over?

It finished about 30 minutes ago.

It’s over. And hate to say this but Beezie was eliminated. :frowning: She will still ride for the team but is eliminated individually.

Thanks, guys… I didn’t want to spoil it and read everything above if it wasn’t over, since I plan to watch the replay. That STINKS about Beezie, I can’t believe it! Our most experienced Olympic rider, I think? I guess I’ll read what you all said…

Super-happy that the other three did well, though!

Totally agree. The mare was over jumping everything; so she was landing close and landing dead.

Beezie could kick her forward off single jumps, but there was no way she could gear up to get 2 long-ish strides in that combination.

I think that was the reason she could not make the distance the first time. The second time she was still long and had scared herself, so she stopped out of self preservation.
